9) It is felt that some International teachers are not very strong with classroom management and control,
especially in US classrooms because they are only here for 3-5 years. The American urban adolescent
can be a challenge to manage in a classroom setting if you are not prepared. Tell us about your discipline
strategies and how you would not allow this situation to be said about you, if you are hired.
10) Situational question: You have been reporting to a parent that his/her child’s behavior has been
extremely poor in the classroom. One day that student decides they will neither do their work nor
comply with your instruction. They proceed to destroy their work and throw things around the
classroom while shouting at classmates and yourself. How would you handle this?

INITIAL INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
1. Describe your teaching experiences over the years of your professional experiences
Over my 34 years of teaching experience I have worked with diverse student groups from
elementary to especial needs learners, early in my career, focused on traditional lecture
method, but over a time I integrated interacting approaches like individualize learning and
project based learning for instance in every learner with special needs in cooperated and
individualized educational plan ( IEP) which resulted to every learner getting to learn best
at their individual levels. Learning out comes were improved.
2. What is your teaching philosophy?
My philosophy is progress teaching philosophy where learning is student centered and
hands on experience. It also enhances critical thinking.
3. What categories of your subject area are you strongest in?
I have a broad knowledge base, but I am strongest in mathematics and science.
4. What categories of your subject area are you weakest in?
While I can analyze music and art, I can’t compose music or paints in a traditional sense.
5. What qualities do you have that make you an effective teacher?
- I have subject mastery on subjects I teach.
- I have communication skills, clear and engaging explanations and active listening. My
classroom management skills are best. I establish rules and expectations, I also keep
students engaged and focused.
- I also do adaptability and creativity i.e adjusting teaching methods and materials to
suit learners needs, I also innovative approaches to make learning enjoyable.
- I have passion for teaching and learning.
6. Please tell us what you know about project based learning (PBL)
- It is where students learn by actively engaging in real world and meaningful projects.
- It involves exploring complex questions, problems or challenges of an intended time.
7. Tell us about your discipline strategies and how you would not allow this situation to
be said about you if you are hired.
The approaches that I will use will be positive behavioral intervention and support, put
good classroom management technique, logical consequences, detention and sustention.
Also involve parents. These are the common ones that I will use when hired.
8. You have been reporting to a parent that his/her child behavior has been extremely
poor in the classroom. How would you handle this?
I will handle this by trying to identify the triggers through observation, and then I arrange
meetings with him/her. If that doesn’t work I collaborate with support staff, colleagues
and school counselor if there is one. I would also implement coping strategies. I would
also regular check on him/her. Through patient and understanding combined with
structured support system improvement will be achieved.
