ABSTRACT
Bohr's atomic model revolutionized our understanding of atomic structure. This project
explores the fundamental principles of Bohr’s model, its assumptions, and its significance in
modern atomic theory. The study also highlights the applications of Bohr’s model in
explaining atomic spectra and the stability of atoms.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study

Niels Bohr proposed an atomic model in 1913 that explained the stability of atoms and the
emission spectra of elements. His model introduced the concept of quantized orbits for
electrons and successfully explained the spectral lines of hydrogen.

1.2 Literature Review

Several studies have examined Bohr’s model and its impact on atomic physics. Researchers
have found that while Bohr's model was a significant advancement, it was later refined by
quantum mechanics. However, its principles remain fundamental to understanding atomic
behavior.

1.3 Objective of the Study

The main objectives of this study are:
- To understand the postulates of Bohr’s atomic model.
- To analyze the applications of Bohr’s model in atomic spectra.
- To evaluate the limitations of Bohr’s model in modern physics.
1.4 Limitation of the Study
This study is limited to the theoretical aspects of Bohr’s model and does not include
experimental demonstrations or quantum mechanical modifications.

CHAPTER 2: THEORY AND EXPLANATION

2.1 Postulates of Bohr’s Atomic Model

Bohr's model is based on the following key postulates:
- Electrons move in fixed orbits around the nucleus without radiating energy.
- Energy is absorbed or emitted when an electron transitions between orbits.
- The angular momentum of an electron in an orbit is quantized.

2.2 Energy Levels and Spectral Lines

The energy levels of electrons determine the spectral lines of elements. Bohr’s model
successfully explained the emission spectrum of hydrogen, which consists of discrete
spectral lines corresponding to electronic transitions.

CHAPTER 3: APPLICATIONS OF BOHR’S ATOMIC MODEL

- Explanation of atomic spectra.
- Understanding chemical bonding.
- Basis for quantum mechanics.
- Applications in laser and spectroscopy technologies.

CHAPTER 4: CONCLUSION
Bohr’s atomic model played a crucial role in shaping modern atomic theory. Despite its
limitations, it provided a foundational understanding of electron behavior in atoms. This
study highlights the significance of Bohr’s contributions to atomic physics.
