Setting of Passwords-III
AIM
In this exercise we will learn to configure wireless router and wireless client and verify
connectivity.
Prerequisite
1. Cisco Packet Tracer Version 7.0
Process/Steps
1. Open Cisco Packet Tracer Version 7.0
2. Design a network as follows:-
3. Give IP Addresses to PCs as depicted in above topology.
4. Configure wireless router
To configure wireless router click on router, go to GUI tab. A wireless router has two
interfaces – WAN interface and LAN interface. WAN interface is given internet ip and
LAN interface is given network ip. By default network (LAN) ip is 192.168.0.1 but you
can change it. This router also acts as and DHCP server for all the wireless devices
connected to it wirelessly.
5. Set WAN or Internet IP
This IP should be of same network if wireless router is connected to a switch. In other case,
if wireless router is connected to another router or ISP router then it will be of different
network. But in both cases the gateway should be the next router’s IP connected to it.
6. Set network ip and DHCP
7. Save settings
8. Configure wireless n/w settings like SSID etc and save settings
9. Set wireless network security and save settings
10. Now configure wireless client i.e. PC or Laptop
If it is a PC or Laptop, first add a wireless NIC after switching it off.
11. Go to Desktop and Click on PC wireless to configure wireless settings. Go to Profiles tab
and click on new to create a new profile.
12. Type profile name and click OK.
13. Click on Advance Setup and type the same name of Wireless Network Name as was in
wireless router.
14. Choose obtain IP address from DHCP
15. Choose security WPA2-Personal
16. Create a password
17. Save the settings
18. Now, just check the connectivity and link state
19. To verify the connectivity just ping to one PC in the wired area from this wireless
PC
Conclusion
After completing this exercise, we learned how to configure a wireless router and how to
create a infrastructure mode wireless network.
