COURSE ABSTRACT:
The course Industrial Metrology and Quality Management provides a comprehensive understanding of
key principles and practices in the realms of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances (GDT), Indus-
trial Metrology, Quality Management, and Statistical Quality Control. Beginning with GDT, students
delve into fundamental symbols, feature control frames, tolerance zones, and the design of gauges. Sub-
sequently, the exploration of Industrial Metrology encompasses various measuring instruments, error
analysis, comparators, and emerging technologies like laser and vision systems. Quality Management
principles are then introduced, covering dimensions of quality, cost analysis, continuous improvement
methodologies such as Six Sigma and Kaizen, and tools like the Seven Quality Tools and Statistical
Process Control. The course also addresses Quality Management Systems, including ISO standards like
ISO 9001 and ISO 14000, and their implementation across different industry sectors like automotive,
power, and process industries. Through case studies and applications, students gain practical insights
into the application of these concepts in real-world scenarios, fostering a holistic understanding of quality
management in industrial settings. Further reading and self-study materials are provided to encourage
deeper exploration of specific topics within each unit.
