1.The weight of a body on the surface of the earth is 392 N. what will be the
weight of this body on a planet whose mass is double that of the earth and
radius is four times that of the earth?
2. What happens to the magnitude of the force of gravitation between two
objects if:
(i) distance between the objects is tripled?
(ii) mass of both object is doubled?
(iii) mass of both objects as well as distance between them is doubled?
3.If the distance between two masses be increased by a factor of 6, by what
factor would the mass of one of them hence to be altered to maintain the
same gravitational force?
4.A fire cracker is fired and it rises to a height of 1000 m. find the
(i) velocity by which it was released.
(ii) time taken by it to reach the highest point (take g=10 ms−2g=10 ms−2)
5.Obtain a relation between the weight of an object on the surface of earth
and that on moon.
6.On the earth, a stone is thrown from a height in a direction parallel to the
earths surface while another stone is simultaneously dropped from the same
height. Which stone would reach the ground first and why?

height 2.9 m, the upper point A being 19.6 m below the roof.

the base of the balcony?

earth suddenly shrinks to one � third of its present size without losing any

earth. Find the acceleration of such a satellite assuming that the only force
acting on it is that due to the earth. Mass of the earth = 6× 10246× 1024 kg.
(G = 6.67× 10−11 Nm2 kg−26.67× 10−11 Nm2 kg−2).
22.Find the weight of an object at the height 6400 km above the earth�s
surface. The weight of the object at the surface of the earth is 20 N and the
radius of the earth is 6400 km.

gravitational constant. Derive a relation between 'g' and 'G'.
(b) State universal law of Gravitation.
2.How does the weight of an object vary with respect to mass and radius of
the earth? In a hypothetical case, if the diameter of the earth becomes half
of its present value and its mass becomes four times of its present value,
then how would the weight of any object on the surface of the earth be
affected?
3.How does the gravitational force between two onjects change when the
distance between them is reduced to 1414th?
4.(a) Write the formula to find the magnitude of gravitational force between
earth and an object on earth’s surface.
(b) Derive how does the value of gravitational force 'F' change between two
objects when the
(i) distance between them is reduced to half, and
(ii) mass of one object is increased four times?
5.If the distance between masses of two objects is increased by five units, by
what facto would the mass of one of them have to be altered to maintain the
same gravitational force? Would there be an increases or a decrease in the
mass?
6.(a) A planet has mass five times of earth and radius three times that of
earth. Calculate it a acceleration due to gravity, if the value of g on earth
is 10 ms−210 ms−2.
(b) Differentiate between 'G' and 'g'.
7.Derive the formula for the gravitational force using the factors on which it
