*The Art criticism is the practice of appraising the qualities, meaning, or merit of a work of art. Its
purpose is to help the critic or others understand the value of a work of art.Also the importants and
main purpose of art criticism in the classroom is to educate students on appreciation, aesthetics, and
evaluation of works of art while facilitating critical thinking and analysis.
* Art Critique consists of four categories. Describe, Analyze, Interpret and Judge (or Evaluate).
Analyze is about the Mentally separate the parts or elements, thinking in terms of
textures,shapes/forms, light/dark or bright/dull colors, types of lines,and sensory qualities. In this step
consider the most significant art principles that were used in the artwork.
Describe it tells what you see (the visual facts)
Interpret it take to seeks to explain the meaning of the work based on what you have learned so far
about the artwork, what do you think the artist was trying to say.
Judgment is about the personal evaluation based on the understandings of the works
*Contextual Criticism: Discussion and evaluation with consideration of factors surrounding the origin
and heritage to works in the arts and humanities. Formal Criticism: Discussion and evaluation of the
elements and principles essential to works in the arts and humanities.Visual analysis looks at the art's
outward appearance: the artist's use of line, form, and color, for example.

Observation: The Old Guitarist painting has a universal message of being in a situation or in struggle
and poverty as represented through the colors, figure, and composition.The Old Guitarist is one of the
most iconic and haunting pieces of Pablo Picasso's 'Blue Period' which is enriched by surrealism and
symbolism.the guitar in both classical and popular music are incredibly versatile, making it one of the

subjective art, artists use their own emotions and feelings to express themselves through their work.

society in which they grew; and as such, they are influenced by the customs and norms of their society.
