Augustins

NO. 7
“ Augustins no. 7 is a blouse which is knitted
top-down in the round at needle size 6 mm.
With its round yoke and straight sleeves and
body, the design is simplistic in its construction.
The aesthetics of the blouse is highly influenced
by the laced collar, which is knitted separately
onto the piece.
The garment has folded edges at the sleeves and
the bottom, and has a finishing i-cord edge along
the neckline. Furthermore, each sleeve has a
braided ribbon attached, to make them slightly
puffy.

Happy knitting. ”
Size guide
To choose the right size for ones project, plays a vital part in how appreciated and worn a
blouse will be - it can determine wether your knitwear will be a treasured member of your
wardrobe or not. With all the time and effort putten into the process of making a garment,
it is equally as important to make sure that you ensure the right foundation for this process
- this is done by measuring yourself, and letting these widths and lengths be your guideline
throughout the work.

The following chapter is your guide on how to adjust this garment, Augustins no 7, in a way
that will accommodate your unique and beautiful figure. The focus has been put to areas
of the blouse, where we most commonly like to adjust the fit - this can be either lengths or
widths. In this way, you’re given the opportunity to customise the blouse to your liking,
without compromising the overall design features.

Measurements : Please take the following measurements and note them below in cm:

1) Bust 2) Waist. 3) From wrist 4) From shouder

circumference. to inner point of to hip bone.
the shoulder

1 ) Bust circumference : When you’re deciding which size to knit, choose the size which
corresponds to your own actual bust circumference. If you want the blouse to be more
fitted, go down a size and if you want it to have more positive ease, go up a size. Should
you choose to size up or down, please consider the lengths of the sleeves and body, as
these most likely will need to be altered. The easiest way to do so, is to use your above
written measurements, and let these be your guideline in the process.

Bosom : If you have a full bosom, and you’re choosing the garment size according to
your bust circumference, you may sometimes experience that the body and sleeves of
the blouse tend to be either too wide or long. You can accommodate this, by making the
following adjustments:
Choose the size which corresponds to your bust circumference, when knitting the yoke.
When you’re knitting the body (marked in the pattern with *), you can knit this section
in the following way to make the blouse more fitted:
Place a M in each side of the blouse, centered at the under arm cast on row.
Start at BOR.
1st rnd: k all sts.
2nd rnd: k all sts.
3rd rnd: k until 2 sts before the first M, k2tog tbl, move M to the right side needle, k2tog,
k until 2 sts before the second M, k2tog tbl, move M to the right side needle, k2tog, k
remaining sts. = 4 sts inc.

Repeat the 1st - 3rd rnd in a total of 2 times, or until the body has the desired width.
If you also find the sleeves too broad, you can adjust them in the following way:
Start at BOR, which is centered at the under arm cast on row.
1st rnd: k all sts.
2nd rnd: k 1, k2tog, k until 3 sts before BOR, k2tog tbl, k 1.
3rd rnd: k all sts.

Repeat the 1st - 3rd rnd in a total of 2 times, or until the sleeve has the width you wish
for it to have.

2 ) Waist : We all have a preference to how we like the body section of a garment to fit, so
that it meets and embraces our figure - some like the body to be A-shaped, some prefer a
box fit, whilst others want a fitted waist.
In its general form, Augustins no 7, is designed to have a box fit, but the following section
will guide you in how to make it either A-shaped or create an hourglass fit (marked in
the pattern with **).
Please note that these alterrations of the body may affect the total yarn amount.

A-shape: To create an A-shape, increases are continuously made down along the body.
Knit the body in the following way:
Place a M in each side of the blouse, centered at the under arm cast on row.
Start at BOR.
1st rnd: k all sts.
2nd rnd: k all sts.
3rd rnd: k all sts.
4th rnd: k until 1 st before the first M, m1R, k 1, move M to the right side needle, k 1,
m1L, k until 1 st before the second M, m1R, k 1, move M to the right side needle, k 1,
m1L, k remaining sts. = 4 sts inc.

Repeat the 1st - 4th rnd, down along the body, until you reach the point where you must
start to knit the folded edge.

Hourglass shape: To create an hourglass shape, decreases followed by increases are made
down along the body.
Knit the body in the following way:
Place a M in each side of the blouse, centered at the under arm cast on row.
Start at BOR.
1st rnd: k all sts.
2nd rnd: k all sts.
3rd rnd: k all sts.
4th rnd: k until 2 st before the first M, k2tog, move M to the right side needle, k2tog tbl,
k until 2 st before the second M, k2tog, move M to the right side needle, k2tog tbl, k
remaining sts. = 4 sts dec.

Repeat the 1st - 4th rnd in a total o 3 times.

Now increases must be made in the following way:
Start at BOR.
1st rnd: k all sts.
2nd rnd: k all sts.
3rd rnd: k all sts.
4th rnd: k until 1 st before the first M, m1R, k 1, move M to the right side needle, k 1,
m1L, k until 1 st before the second M, m1R, k 1, move M to the right side needle, k 1,
m1L, k remaining sts. = 4 sts inc.

Repeat the 1st - 4th rnd in a total o 3 times.

Continue in Stockinette Stitch until you reach the point where you must start to knit the
folded edge.

3 ) Sleeves : Arm lengths can vary quite a bit from person to person, which is why the
sleeve length for each size stated within this pattern must be seen as a guideline rather
than the favorable length for you.
The easiest way to figure out how long a sleeve should be to accomadate your measure-
ments, is by trying on the blouse after the yoke and body has been knitted. Then you
must measure from the wrist and up to the edge of the yoke /sleeve = the total length
which you must knit the sleeve.

A more narrow / wide sleeve: depending on your own preference, the width of the sleeve
can be adjusted (marked in the pattern as ***). This is done in the following way:
Start at BOR, which is centered at the under arm cast on row.
1st rnd: k all sts.
2nd rnd (more narrow sleeve): k 1, k2tog, k until 3 sts before BOR, k2tog tbl, k 1.
2nd rnd (more wide sleeve): k 1, m1L, k until 1 st before BOR, m1R, k 1.
3rd rnd: k all sts.

Repeat the 1st - 3rd rnd in a total of 2 times, or until the sleeve has the width you wish
for it to have.

3 ) Full length : When wanting to find the right length for a your blouse, 2 things must
be considered: 1) your preferred length and 2) your bust size.
The preferred length should be the length which makes you feel comfortable when wear-
ing the garment - it could be a cropped version or one that goes below the hips. The right
length is a matter of own personal taste, and every version will be equally as beautiful.
This blouse, Augustins no 7, is designed to have a length which goes to your hip bone,
and so, this must be the guideline as well as your starting point when you determine
which length you want for your blouse. This is where your bust size comes into place
- depending on your bust size, the total length of a garment will vary. Therefore, it is
important to measure from the shoulder (make sure you measure down over the breast
and not the cleavage) and down to the hip bone. This measurement will tell you which
total length fits you.
When you have noted your own total garment length, you can start to adjust the length
to your liking - this is done by either lengthening or shortening the full length. When you
shorten or lengthen the blouse, be sure to make this adjustment at the body section, right
before you start to knit the folded edge (marked in the pattern with ****).

Pattern
Before you begin
Please read the entire pattern before casting on.

Be sure to make a swatch before you begin, to ensure the right gauge.

Increasing method: When increases are made to shape the yoke and parts of the collar, the
method m1L is used. m1L: Work to the place where the increase is to be made. Insert the
left side needle from front to back into the horizontal strand between the two stitches. K the
stitch through the back loop.

Decreasing method : When decreases are made to shape the bottom of the sleeves, the meth-
od k2tog is used.

Yoke
With circular needle 5 mm, cast on 76 (78) 80 (82) 84 (86) sts with yarn held dou-
ble-stranded and place a M between the first and last st = BOR and CB.
K 2 rnds.
Switch to circular needle 6 mm and k 2 rnds.
On the next rnd, inc 20 (22) 24 (26) 28 (30) sts evenly.
Now a total of 96 (100) 104 (108) 112 (116) sts on the needle.
Knit 6 (6) 7 (7) 8 (8) rounds in Stockinette Stitch.

From here on, the yoke is shaped by inc sections.

Note that each inc row is offset from the previous, to obtain a discreet inc pattern.
Proceed as follows:

1st inc section:

K 2 sts, M1L, *k 4 sts, M1L*. Repeat from * - * throughout the rnd, k 2 sts.
Now 120 (125) 130 (135) 140 (145) sts in total on the needle.
Knit 6 (6) 7 (7) 8 (8) rnds in Stockinette Stitch.

2nd inc section:

*K 5 sts, M1L*. Repeat from * - * throughout the rnd.
Now 144 (150) 156 (162) 168 (174) sts in total on the needle.
Knit 6 (6) 7 (7) 8 (8) rnds in Stockinette Stitch.
3rd inc section:
K 3 sts, M1L, *k 6 sts, M1L*. Repeat from * - * throughout the rnd, k 3 sts.
Now 168 (175) 182 (189) 196 (203) sts in total on the needle.
Knit 6 (6) 7 (7) 8 (8) rnds in Stockinette Stitch.

4th inc section:

*K 7 sts, M1L*. Repeat from * - * throughout the rnd.
Now 192 (200) 208 (216) 224 (232) sts in total on the needle.
Knit 6 (6) 7 (7) 8 (8) rnds in Stockinette Stitch.

5th inc section:

K 4 sts, M1L, *k 8 sts, M1L*. Repeat from * - * throughout the rnd, k 4 sts.
Now 216 (225) 234 (243) 252 (261) sts in total on the needle.
Knit 6 (6) 7 (7) 8 (8) rnds in Stockinette Stitch.

6th inc section:

*K 9 sts, M1L*. Repeat from * - * throughout the rnd.
Now 240 (250) 260 (270) 280 (290 sts in total on the needle.
Knit 6 (6) 7 (7) 8 (8) rnds in Stockinette Stitch.

On the next round, divide the work for body and sleeves:
K 36 (38) 40 (42) 44 (46) sts (= back piece), place the next 48 (49) 50 (51) 52 (53) sts on
a stitch holder (1st sleeve), cast on 8 sts, k 72 (76) 80 (84) 88 (92) sts (front piece), place
the next 48 (49) 50 (51) 52 (53) sts on a stitch holder (2nd sleeve), cast on 8 sts, k 36 (38)
40 (42) 44 (46) sts (= back piece).

Body
There’s now a total of 160 (168) 176 (184) 192 (200) sts for the body.
(If you now prefer to adjust the shape of the body, please read the following sections in
the chapter “Size Guide”: * / ** / ****).
With circular needle 6 mm and the yarn held double-stranded, continue knitting in the
round in Stockinette Stitch until the sweater is 46 (48) 50 (52) 54 (56) cm (or preferred
length), measured CF.
On the next rnd, switch to circular needle 5 mm and continue in Stockinette Stitch for
additional 8 cm. Place a M after 4 cm - the M indicates the row where the body must be
bended to create the finishing folded edge. Bind off.

Sleeves
Place the 48 (49) 50 (51) 52 (53) sleeve sts on circular needle 6 mm and pick up 8 (7) 8 (7)
8 (7) sts from the underarm cast on, starting at the center of the cast on row.
Now a total of 56 (56) 58 (58) 60 (60) sts on the needle.
Place a M between the first and last st = BOR.
(If you now prefer to adjust the width and length of the sleeve, please read the following
section in the chapter “Size Guide”: ***).
Knit in the rnd in Stockinette Stitch with the yarn held double-stranded, until the sleeve
is 40 (41) 42 (43) 44 (45) cm, measured from the underarm cast on row and down.
On the next rnd, dec evenly to 32 (32) 34 (34) 36 (36) sts by k2tog.
On the next rnd, place a M at the BOR, which must not be removed - the M indicates the
point where a braided ribbon later must be attached to.
Continue in Stockinette Stitch for additional 8 cm. Place a M after 4 cm - the M indicates
the row where the sleeve must be bended to create the finishing folded edge.
Bind off.
Repeat instructions for the second sleeve.

Braided ribbon for sleeves

With a double strand of each yarn type (= 2 strands of Silk Mohair + 2 strands of New
Zealand Lambswool), braid a 100 cm long ribbon.
The ribbon must now be sewn on to the sleeve in the following way:
Bend the ribbon at its middle to find its centerpoint.
At its centerpoint, sew on the ribbon to the sleeve in the spot previously marked by a M.

Neck
An i-cord edge must now be knitted on to the neckline.
This is done in the following way:
With circular needle 5 mm and starting CB, pick up 76 (78) 80 (82) 84 (86) sts from the
RS along the cast on row. Break yarn.
From the RS, cast on 4 sts onto the right side needle and p 1 row.
The 4 sts are now at the left side needle and are placed in continuation of the previously
established neckline sts.
Continue by knitting the i-cord in the following way:
*k 3, k2tog tbl (1 st from the i-cord + 1 st from the neckline), slip the 4 sts back onto
the left side needle*. Repeat from * to * until all sts from the neckline have been knitted.
Bind off, break the yarn and sew the ends of the i-cord discretely together from the WS.

Collar
With circular needle 5 mm and starting CB, pick up 76 (78) 80 (82) 84 (86) sts from the
RS in the horisontal row just below the i-cord edge. Break yarn.
Place a M between the first and last st = BOR and CB.
The 1st rnd is knitted in the following way:
*K 1, yo*, repeat from * - * throughout the rnd.
Now a total of 152 (156) 160 (164) 168 (172) sts on the needle.
K 1 rnd.
On the next rnd, k and inc 16 (12) 20 (16) 24 (20) sts evenly.
Now a total of 168 (168) 180 (180) 192 (192) sts in total on the needle.
From the next round, start to work the lace chart over the next 24 rnds.
When the chart rnds have been knitted, break yarn and leave sts on the needle.
A laced edging must now be knitted diagonally onto the collar. The edging is knitted back
and forth. This is done in the following way:
From the RS and with the yarn held double-stranded, cast on 16 sts onto the right side
needle and p 1 row.
The 4 sts are now at the left side needle and are placed in continuation of the collar sts.
Continue by knitting the edging in the following way:

Next row (RS): p 1 (edge st), yo, k2tog, k 1, p 1, k3tog, *yo, k 1*, repeat from * - * in a total
of 3 times, yo, k3tog tbl, p 1, k2tog tbl (1 edging st + 1 collar st).

The edging has now been established and the following 4 rows must be repeated until
there is no collar sts left.

1. row (WS): s1wyif, k 1, p 9, k 1, p 3, k 1 (edge st).

2. row (RS): p 1 (edge st), yo, k2tog, k 1, p 1, k 9, p 1, k2tog tbl.
3. row (WS): s1wyif, k 1, p 9, k 1, p 3, k 1 (edge st).
4. row (RS): p 1 (edge st), yo, k2tog, k 1, p 1, k3tog, *yo, k 1*, repeat from * - * in a total
of 3 times, yo, k3tog tbl, p 1, k2tog tbl (1 edging st + 1 collar st).

Lastly, bind off, break the yarn and sew the ends of the edging discretely together from
the WS.

Finishing
Weave in ends.
Edges: Fold in the bind off rows of the body and sleeves to the WS by their marked row,
use Kitchener Stitch to secure it. Remove M.
Rinse the blouse by hand in luke warm water with a slightly bit of wool soap, then let it
dry laying flat.
Note !
Knit rnd 6 in the following way:
K until 1 st remains on the rnd.
!!
Move the M which indicates the
BOR 1 st to the right. The BOR
has now been offset by 1 st - this
to ensure that the first double
inc at the next rnd is knitted
correctly.
