Feeding & Reproductive Features


The dodo's nests were deep in the
forest, in a grass bed. There, the female
would lay one egg, which she would
then protect and raise.
The majority of the dodo bird's diet
likely consisted of plant-based foods,
such as nuts, seeds, fruits, and roots.

Habitat
The Dodo lived in the dense
forests of Mauritius, an island
in the Indian Ocean.

Extinction Date:
It became extinct around 1681.

Extinction Cause:
Portuguese settlers came to the
island where dodo birds lived and
hunted these birds. Additionally,
these settlers brought animals that
also preyed on dodo birds like
monkeys, dogs, rats, and pigs.
