SECTION A: SHORT ANSWER QUESTIONS (40 marks).

SECTION B: EXTENDED RESPONSE QUESTIONS (60 marks)

11. a. As a builder, how would you explain the following two methods of fixing door frames to a
layman?
(i) During construction of the wall
(ii) After wall has been constructed (10 marks)

b. The size of windows would governed by the total area of window space needed. Describe any
three criteria that may be kept in view while designing a window. (6 marks)
c. Windows are classified based on the ways they are opened and closed; briefly explain any two
types of windows movement. (4 marks)

12. a. With regards to materials used in door installation, how does the following work
(i) Use of wood sups or pallets
(ii) Use of wrought iron straps (6 marks)
b. Describe any five methods of general types of door movements. (10 marks)
c. Describe the functionality of flush fire doors. (4 marks)

13. a. Having expertise in fixing doors, describe the following components of door ironmongery
(i) Locks, Latches and Bolts
(ii) Hinges or Butts
(iii) Letter Plates
(iv) Finger and Kicking Plates
(v) Stile
(vi) Brace
(vii) Rail
(viii) Sill
(ix) Rebate (9 marks)
b. Describe how you would fix a fabricated window in a window opening of a building. (5 marks)
c. Outline steps carried out in fixing of glass pane (window pane) on metal window opening.

14. a. With a well labeled sketch, draw and label a door frame indicating:
(i) Mortice and Tenon joint
(ii) Weathered sill
(iii) Rebate for inward opening. (10 marks)
