At the end of the lesson, the students will able to:
a. differentiate active and passive voice;

of the students is to match each active voice sentence with its correct passive voice version.
Other student will have a chance to correct any mismatches. The teacher will ask volunteer
students in this activity through raising their hands.
                Active Voice Passive Voice

Explore
The teacher will let the students read the sentences and instructed them to repeat after the
teacher read the sentences. The teacher will give one minute for students to observe the
sentences. Then afterward, the teacher will raise a higher order thinking questions that will lead
them into the topic.
What did you notice about the structures of the sentences?
    How did the structures differ?
In this sentence (referring to the active voice) who is the doer of the action? Is that the
       subject of the sentence?
In this sentence (referring to the passive voice voice) Where is the subject of the
sentence? Is it a doer or a receiver of the action?
Are there any changes of the tenses of the sentences?
Are the changes of the tenses affect the meaning of the sentences?
Based from this, what do you think our topic for today?
Explain
The teacher will then proceed with the discussion of the topic, first introducing the definitions
of active and passive voice. The teacher will differentiate between active and passive voice using
the sentences presented earlier. The teacher will explain how verbs change depending on tense
and aspect. Additionally, the teacher will provide several examples, converting sentences
together with the class and discussing the changes. The teacher will randomly call on students
to check their understanding.
Active Voice - the subject is performing an action
Ex. The dog chases the ball.
Passive Voice - the action’s target, ball, is positioned first as the focus of the sentence. The
sentence gets flipped, and the subject is now being acted upon by the verb. In other words, the
subject is passive.
Ex. The ball is chased by the dog.
 Present Tense:
Active Voice: Subject+ Present Simple Verb + Object
 Ex. They deliver the mail.
Passive Voice: Object of the Active Sentence + "is/are" + Past Participle + "by" + Subject (optional)
Ex. The mail is delivered (present simple passive) by them.
 Past Tense:
Active Voice: Subject + Past Simple Verb + Object
 Ex. She wrote a letter.
Passive Voice: Object of the Active Sentence + "was/were" + Past Participle + "by" + Subject (optional)
Ex. A letter was written (past simple passive) by her.
 Future Tense:
Active Voice: Subject + "will/shall" + Base Form of Verb + Object
Ex. We will finish the work.
Passive Voice: Object of the Active Sentence + "will/shall be" + Past Participle + "by" + Subject
 (optional)
Ex. The work will be finished (future simple passive) by us.
 Present Continuous Tense:
Active Voice: Subject + "am/is/are" + Present Participle + Object
Ex. He is painting the house.
Passive Voice: Object of the Active Sentence + "am/is/are being" + Past Participle + "by" + Subject
 (optional)
Ex. The house is being painted (present continuous passive) by him.
 Past Continuous Tense:
Active Voice: Subject + "was/were" + Present Participle + Object
 Ex. They were preparing dinner.
Passive Voice: Object of the Active Sentence + "was/were being" + Past Participle + "by" + Subject
 (optional)
Ex. Dinner was being prepared (past continuous passive) by them.
After the discussion, the teacher will provide a short quiz consisting of five items only, to check
their understanding of the topic. The following sentences are the active and passive voice and
the task of the students is to convert it. If the sentence is an active voice, convert it into passive
voice; and if the sentences is a passive voice, convert into active voice. The students will be given
three minutes to answer.
   1. Roger got a nine score out of 10 on his exam.
   2. The song was composed by the national artist.
   3. The plates have been washed by the child.
   4. The chef cooks the meal.
   5. The project was completed by the students.
Elaborate
The teacher will ask the students to take a ½ sheet of paper and instruct them to pair up with
their seatmates. The teacher will present some pictures, and the students will write down what
they can say about each picture. Additionally, the teacher will guide the students in forming
their sentences, whether in active voice or passive voice. Following this, the students will pass
their sheets to their seatmates and have them convert the sentences to the corresponding
voice. After converting the sentences, the students will return the papers to their owners and
prepare for the next picture that the teacher will present. There are 10 pictures to be
presented, and after that, the class will do the checking.
Evaluate
To assess the students’ learning, the teacher will provide some quizzes.
For part 1, the students will do some exercises converting active voice to passive voice
        and vice versa.
Instructions: Convert the following active voice sentences into passive voice.
   1. She paints beautiful landscapes.
   2. The students are studying for their exams.
   3. He plays the guitar every evening.
   4. They built a new bridge across the river.

   7. The project will be completed by Friday.
   8. The old house next door is being renovated by them.
   9. A new product was launched by the company yesterday.
   10. A detailed report on the findings was written by him.
For part 2, this will serve as their assignment. They will be asked to find five active
voice sentences and five passive voice sentences in any newspapers, magazines,
brochures, etc., that are available in their homes. And after that, they will convert
each sentence to its corresponding voice; the active voice will be converted into
passive, and the passive voice sentences will be converted into active voice. They will
write this into their English notebooks, and pass in the next meeting.
