Concept Paper

Title: Bridging Literacy Gaps: Enhancing Reading Comprehension of Grade 6 Learners

for High School Readiness

Significance of the Study:

This Classroom-Based Action Research (CBAR) aims to bridge these literacy

gaps by implementing targeted interventions that enhance reading comprehension skills
among Grade 6 learners at Miagao Central Elementary School.

Statement of the Problem:

Reading comprehension is a critical skill for academic success and lifelong

learning. However, studies reveal that many Grade 6 learners face challenges in
understanding and interpreting text, leading to literacy gaps that hinder their readiness for
high school. These challenges can be attributed to various factors, including limited
vocabulary, insufficient reading strategies, and lack of exposure to diverse texts.
Addressing these gaps is crucial to ensuring that learners transition smoothly to high
school and are prepared for the more complex academic demands.

This study aims to address the following problems:

1. What are the challenges Grade 6 learners face in understanding and interpreting texts
that hinder their readiness for high school?
2. What strategies can be implemented to enhance the reading comprehension skills of
Grade 6 learners?
3. Is there a significant difference in the challenges faced by Grade 6 learners in
understanding and interpreting texts that hinder their readiness for high school?
4. Is there a significant difference in the implementation of strategies to enhance the
reading comprehension skills of Grade 6 learners?

Methodology

This Action research will use A quantitative method including pre-tests, post-
tests, and classroom observations.

The respondents of this Action research will be the Grade 6 teachers at

Miagao Central Elementary School.

Analysis: Data will be analyzed to determine the effectiveness of the

interventions in enhancing reading comprehension.

Expected Outcomes:

1. Improved reading comprehension skills among Grade 6 learners.

2. Enhanced readiness of learners for high school academic demands.

Conclusion:

This research underscores the importance of addressing literacy gaps to prepare

Grade 6 learners for the academic challenges of high school. By implementing evidence-
based interventions, the study aims to foster improved reading comprehension skills,
paving the way for learners’ continued academic success. The findings will serve as a
valuable resource for educators and policymakers in enhancing literacy education.
