Course Outcomes: At the end of the course students will be able to:
1. Identify the research problems and its framework.
2. Choose proper research design with appropriate sampling design and data
collection methods.
3. Apply analytical and problem solving methods.
4. Derive the appropriate findings and practical suggestions for research problem.
Guidelines for Preparation of 6th Semester Dissertation
1. PREFACE
a) The purpose of writing of project is to communicate the findings of the project study
undertaken on a particular topic (based on specialization) by a student in an
organization in a systematic way, in partial fulfillment of BBA/B.COM program. It
is a time-bound and independent study guided by a faculty member.
b) Students are advised to carry out their project work in area specialization they are
doing their final year such as Finance, Marketing, Supply Chain Management or
Human Resource.
c) Choose any medium or large-scale organization for your project data collection.
d) Allocation of research guide will be done by the department. The guide allocation
will be notified to you. You are required to contact the faculty guide and discuss on
the topic you want to pursue.
e) You are required to meet the guide as per schedule made in the time table.
f) The project report must be selective and intensive study on a particular topic,
presented in a simple and systematic manner.
g) Project writing should exhibit originality. Copying of others work is strictly
prohibited. But one can refer previous project reports to gain an insight or to
understand.
h) The concerned faculty guide must duly approve topic of the project before one starts
working on it.
i) There shall be certificate from college (As per standard format) given by the guide
and further approved by the Dean-SOC.
j) The students must submit to the faculty guide on or before the prescribed date, two
copies of project reports (one for University) and the second copy (original) must
be collected and kept by the student with himself/herself after getting signed from
Dean-SOC, HOD SOC and faculty guide. All two copies must be submitted
together.
k) The original certificates (if issued) by Company (where project is undertaken),
Dean-SOC, and Faculty Guide have to be included only in Original project
report meant for the student.
2. ARRANGEMENT OF THE CONTENTS OF THE PROJECT
The sequence in which the PROJECT material should be arranged and bound as follows:
1. Title page
2. PROJECT APPROVAL (Title in Upper Case)
3. DECLARATION (Title in Upper case)
4. CERTIFICATE (Title in Upper Case) – Certificate by Guide countersigned by
HOD and Dean
5. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT (Title in Upper Case)
6. TABLE OF CONTENT (Title in Upper Case)
7. LIST OF TABLES (Title in Upper Case)
8. LIST OF FIGURES (Title in Upper Case)
9. Appendices
10. References
The Tables and Figures should be included at appropriate places in the text of the dissertation.
3. Evaluation:

Internal Evaluation: Internal evaluation will be done by the internal guide.


a) Viva-voce / Presentation: The viva-voce examination will be conducted by
the respective HOD / Professors of the department or an expert drawn from
other institutions
b) Project Work (Project) work carries 100 marks consisting of 60marks for
internal evaluation by the internal guide, 40 marks for viva-voce examination
c) Format of the Dissertation report: The Dissertation report shall be prepared
using word processor, using Times New Roman font sized 12 for body text,
16/14 font size for heading and sub-heading respectively on a page layout of
A4 size with 1” margin on all sides and 1.5 line spacing and paragraph spacing.
The Project Work report shall not exceed 80 pages.

4. ORGANISATION OF THE CHAPTERS OF PROJECT

The project shall be presented in a number of chapters, starting with Introduction and ending
with Recommendations and Conclusions. Each of the other chapters will have precise title
reflecting the contents of the chapter. A chapter can be subdivided into sections, sub-sections
and sub-sub-section so as to present the content discretely and with due emphasis.

Chapter I
Introduction
It shall justify and highlight the problem poser and define the topic and the aim and scope of
the work presented in the dissertation. It may also highlight the significant contributions from
the investigation.

Industry and Company Profile

The Industry and Company Profile should broadly cover the following topics
a. Introduction to Industry/area of business
b. Total size/annual turnover of the industry
c. Key players in the industry & their market share. [Amount of turn over]. Annual
Industry Growth Rate Government policies/regulations influencing the industry
(with reference to foreign competition or FDI limit).
Company profile:
a. A brief history of the company/business group.
b. Year of establishment. initial investment, founders’ profile, place(s) of business,
nature of initial business of the group, & past business performance
c. Present position of the company/business group in terms of total investment,
type/nature of businesses, total turnover, total number of employees, product profile,
competitor profile, rate of growth of investment, sales, profits, clients or customers,
present product/segment wise market share of the company, subsidiary companies [if
any] under the same management, collaboration/joint ventures [if any],performance of
its stocks for the past few years, export earnings[if exporting], and
certifications/achievements/awards won[if any] and SWOT analysis.

Chapter II
Review of Literature
This Chapter shall present a critical appraisal of the previous work published in the literature
pertaining to the topic of the investigation. The extent and emphasis of the chapter shall depend
on the nature of the investigation.

Chapter III
Research Design
The research methodology chapter must contain the information under the following headings;

Objectives of the study


Statement of the problem
Scope of the study
Variables and operational definition
Hypotheses
Questionnaire or instrument design
Method of data collection (primary / secondary)
Sampling Type / size
Statistical design
Limitations of the Study

Due importance shall be given to experimental setups, procedures adopted and techniques
developed, methodologies developed and adopted.

Chapter IV
Analysis and Interpretation
This chapter refers to the process of establishing the meaningful relationship between the
variables identified in the study using appropriate statistical tools.

Important derivations/formulae should normally be presented in the text of these chapters.


Representative date in table and figures should be included.

Chapter V
Summary of Findings
This shall form the penultimate chapter of the dissertation and shall include a thorough
evaluation of the investigation carried out and bring out the contributions from the study. The
discussion shall logically lead to inferences and conclusions as well as scope for possible
further future work.
Chapter VI
Recommendations and Conclusions
This will be the final chapter of the dissertation. A brief report of the work carried out shall
form the first part of the Chapter. Conclusions derived from the logical analysis presented in
the Results and Discussions Chapter shall be presented and clearly enumerated, each point
stated separately. Scope for future work should be stated lucidly in the last part of the Chapter.

Appendix (No chapterization)


Could include any relevant details such as brochure/balance sheet etc, along with a copy of the
questionnaire.
References
The candidates shall follow the style of citation and style of listing as per APA 6th edition format.
Single spacing should be used for typing references.

4 PROJECT FORMAT

Paper

The project shall be printed on A4 size, 80 GSM white paper.

Printing
The standard font shall be Times New Roman of 12 pts for running text and 14 pts for headings with
1.5 line spacing and justified. Pages from Title to Contents including list of tables and charts shall
be printed on single side and rest of the content shall be printed on both sides of the paper.
However, the first page starting with Introduction will begin in a new page on the right side. The
dissertation shall be soft bound in white colour 270 GSM Board with Black letters (University logo:
colour print).

Margin for Single side printing:


Top edge: 0.5 inch Bottom
edge: 0.5 inch Left: 1 inch
Right: 0.5 inch

Page Numbers
Page numbering in the text of the dissertation shall be placed at the center of the footer. Page
numbers shall start from Introduction chapter and end with Recommendations and Conclusions
chapter.
