3. (a) A farmer has 80 hectares of his farm for planting maize and cabbages. He must grow
at least 10 hectares of maize and 20 hectares of cabbages to meet demand. He prefers
to plant more cabbages than maize but his work force and equipment will only allow
him to cultivate a maximum of three times the quantity of cabbages to that of maize.
If the profit of maize is Tsh 8,000/= per hectare and on cabbages is Tsh 5,000/= per
hectare, formulate thuis a Linear Programming problem.
(b) Two suppliers of sweets F and G are capable of supplying not more thanm 40kg and
35kg of sweets respectively. The supplier is required to supply sweets top three day
care schools X, Y and Z. The daily schools requirenmwents are 30kg, 25kg and 20kg
for schools X, Y and Z respectively. The distance n kiklometres from the suppliers to
the respective school are tabulated in the following table.

4. (a) The first two samples has 100 items with mean 15 and standard deviation 3. If the
whole group has 250 items with mean 156 and standard deviation √13.44. Find the
standard deviation of the second group.
(b) The results of weights of potatoes obtained from each of 100 roots are summarized as
follows.

5. (a) Use the appropriate laws to simplify the expression [ A⋃(𝐴′ ⋃𝐵)′ ]⋃[𝐵′ ∩ (𝐴 − 𝐵)]′
(b) Given that 𝐴 = {𝑥 ∈ 𝑅: − 3 < 𝑥 < 5}

𝐶 = {𝑥 ∈ 𝑅: 𝑥 > 5}

(c) In a class of a certain school there are 15 girls who like dancing ,5 girls are pretty and
6 girls who are intelligent. Every prwetty girl like dancing , 3 prettty girls do not like
dancing . If two girls are both pretty and intelligent.
(i) Present the above information in the Venn diagram.
(ii) Find the number of girls in a class.
(iii)Find the number of girls who are pretty but not intelligent

6. (a) If f ( x) = x 2 − 9 and g ( x) = x − 2 , find f ( g ( x)) .


(b) Draw the graph of f ( g ( x)) otained in part (a) above.

8. (a) (i) Find the angle between two straight lines enclosed in the curve 2 x2 − 7 xy + 3 y 2 = 0
(ii) The straight line 2 y − x − 16 = 0 is perpendicular bisector to the line joining the
points A and B. If A is at the point (- 3 ,4). Find the coordinates of the point B.
(b) A line PQ is divided internally at R in the ratio 2:1. Given that P(1,1) and Q(4,7). Find
the coordinates of R.
(c) Find the value of K so that circles x2 + y 2 − 6 x − ky + 25 = 0 and
x2 + y 2 + 2 x − 4 y + 1 = 0 touching each other internally.
