Lab Title: Exploring Windows 10 Advanced Features

Objective: The objective of this lab is to familiarize students with the advanced features of the
Windows 10 operating system and to help them understand the importance of these features in
managing and securing a computer system.

Requirements:

 Windows 10 computer

 Basic understanding of Windows 10 navigation and settings

Duration: 1 hour

Tasks:

1. Task Manager

 Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and explore the different tabs (Processes,
Performance, App history, Startup, etc.).

 Identify the processes using the most CPU, memory, and disk resources.

 Explain the importance of Task Manager in monitoring and managing system


performance.

2. Windows Security

 Open Windows Security (Windows Security icon in the system tray).

 Explore the different security options available, such as Virus & threat protection,
Firewall & network protection, and App & browser control.

 Discuss the importance of Windows Security in protecting the system from malware
and other security threats.

3. Storage Spaces

 Open Storage Spaces settings (search for "Storage Spaces" in the Start menu).

 Create a new storage pool using multiple drives (if available).

 Explain the importance of Storage Spaces in managing and protecting data on a


computer system.

4. Windows Update

 Open Windows Update settings (Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update).

 Check for updates and install any available updates.

 Discuss the importance of keeping the operating system up to date for security and
performance reasons.

5. System Restore

 Open System Restore settings (search for "Create a restore point" in the Start
menu).
 Explain the importance of System Restore in recovering from system failures and
errors.

6. Windows Defender Firewall

 Open Windows Defender Firewall settings (search for "Windows Defender Firewall"
in the Start menu).

 Explore the different firewall settings and rules.

 Discuss the importance of Windows Defender Firewall in blocking unauthorized


access to the system.

N.B Please explore the above features as best as you can. You will be required to answer questions
posed during the lab session with the tutor next week. Remember labs account for 10% of your final
assessment and have a significant impact on your attendance report.

This activity should be completed by Monday, 11th of March 2024
