Introduction

Problem Overview: This study will explore the difficulties of employees in which they are working as a 7/11 convenience store at the Aurora, J.P. Rizal especially on the customer who

neglected garbage and shoplifting or expired products. Dealing with a mess left by customers takes valuable time away from employees and makes the store an even less pleasant place to be.

The other major issue is the huge loss of money that leads to security problems for workers due to shoplifting. Also, tracking product expiry is an ongoing concern, as employees would need to

ensure that those products are taken off the shelves before they expire. This study will discuss how these problems impact 7/11 store business operations and worker welfare.

Purpose: We will identify the challenges experienced by the staff in the 7/11 convenience store, Aurora, J.P. Rizal which includes customer not minding of cleaning store, shoplifting and

expired products handling. The objective is to investigate how employees can increase their capacity of managing these kinds of issues, provide better service and keep a positive working

environment. Also to provide insights and recommendations to help them improve their services and achieve stability in the future.

Objectives

Goals: Customer neglect of their own waste: To ensure that to keep the business clean and appealing, the aim is to apply methods that encourage customers to properly dispose of waste

responsibly.

Shoplifting: Determining practical methods to decrease shoplifting incidents, reduce product loss, and improve store security is the primary objective.

Product Expiration: The goal is to improve the processes for managing inventory in order to better monitor longevity of the product, prevent the number of items that have expired, and give that

customers can always get new products.

Alternatives

Managing customer their own waste

Option 1: To make sure that waste is taken care of properly, have employees remind customers to dispose of their trash before they leave the store.

Option 2: 7/11 staff may provide or put up signage like "clean before you go" in each table in and out of the store so that the customers who use it will see it. They can also add in the signage

that if they don't follow the rule, they'll get a penalty.

Option 3: When customers arrive, provide them small, lightweight trash bags and advise them to carry their waste with them until they reach the right disposal place.

Prevention for Shoplift

1
Option 1: Hire a trained security guard in a 7/11 convenience store to prevent and to lessen the possible shoplifters and to make a strong security that can handle such situations.

Option 2: Put a warning poster inside the 7/11 convenience store where it can be noticeable to customers. Make sure that the content of the poster declares the legal consequences of shoplifting

and supports it with legal documentation.

Option 3: 7/11 should implement advanced security technologies such as real-time digital video solutions with IP cameras that can help monitor and detect theft. These systems can capture

events in real-time and provide valuable data for investigation.

Preventing the Expiration of the Products

Option 1: Staff should regularly check the expiration dates of products on the shelves and move older stock to the front. This applies to both refrigerated and non-refrigerated items.

Option 2: 7-Eleven convenience store should offer discounts on products that are close to their expiration date, especially fresh food and prepackaged meals, to reduce waste while still moving

inventory.

Option 3: Every customer needs to understand about the expiration labels of the products by trying to search in an online source or asking the staff what is the difference between expiration and

best before so it may help reduce disposal of food products of 7-Eleven.

Evaluation of Alternatives

Customer Neglect their own waste

(Option 1) Pros and Cons: Providing small trash bags to the customers who dine-in could maintain the cleanliness of the store and encourage them to be responsible for their own waste. The 7

Eleven will also enhance their reputation because of this, but other customers may see it as an inconvenience to carry a trash bag. It can also be added as an additional expense to the store.

Costs: Reminding customers to dispose of their own waste won't cost money because it is part of their job. 537 is their minimum salary.

(Option 2) Pros and Cons: Putting up signage could help the employees to encourage customers that they need to clean their own trash before they leave the store because it's their

responsibility and the employees can focus on their work. Giving a penalty to every customer may give them a negative reaction and make them ignore the sign, especially if they are in a hurry.

Costs: Putting up one 12"×18" and two 8.5"×11" "Clean As You Go" signs on the table inside the 7-Eleven store will cost Php 2,300.00 for the printing and poster itself. The price of the poster

Eleven will also enhance their reputation because of this, but other customers may see it as an inconvenience to carry a trash bag. It can also be added as an additional expense to the store.

Costs: The estimated costs for providing small trash bags for every customer who dine-in will be Php480.00 per day for buying 20 bundles for 200 customers.

Shoplifting

2
(Option 1) Pros and Cons: Hiring a professionally trained security guard in a 7-Eleven convenience store could decrease the possibility of having a shoplifter. The security guard will make sure

that every customer that goes out will show their receipt, especially when they are not dining in, but it may consume more time and can cause a delay in the customer's exit from the store.

(Option 2) Pros and Cons: Having a poster inside the 7-Eleven convenience store may give a shoplifter a clear warning to not commit theft, but they may not read and ignore the poster and

continue their wrongdoing inside the convenience store.

(Option 3) Pros and Cons: Implementing an advanced security technologies can improved the safety of every employees in a dangerous situation and decreasing a theft case at 7- Eleven

store. It may cause a privacy concerns like disturbing in other customers and regularly need to update software/hardware and could added an additional expenses.

Product Expiration

(Option 1) Pros and Cons: Staff that are regularly checking the expiration date will surely know that their products will be sold before they expire and can help to minimize food waste, but it

can be harder for every customer to find the products that they want to buy, and some of the customers are not selecting to buy the products that will close to an expiration date.

Costs: The estimated cost to implement regularly check the expiration dates of products on the shelves is Php 537.00 per day, base on their daily salary.

(Option 2) Pros and Cons: Having an offer of a discount on products that are close to their expiration date can attract every customer to buy discounted products at 7-Eleven and improve

loyalty, but some customers might only come in to take advantage of discounted products, causing them to become crowded, and it can lead to staff doing another job by updating the price and

checking expiration dates.

Costs: 3 items 5% off discount 15 days before expiration.

(Option 3) Pros and Cons: Every customer that needs to understand about the expirations labels of the products can lead to a better decision-making when buying a product and save money in

every customers. However, it may also create a misunderstanding about the expiration date and best before leading to food waste and could require the staff an additional training.

Costs: The estimated cost for having knowledge about expiration labels of the product won't cost any expenses.

Recommended Solution

Customer Neglect Their Own Waste

3
Best Option: The best recommended option is that 7/11 staff may provide or put up signage like "clean before you go" in each table in and out of the store so that the customers who use it will

see it. They can also add in the signage that if they don't follow the rule, they'll get a penalty.

Reasoning: To encourage customers to clean up after themselves, posting "Clean Before You Go" signage at 7-Eleven locations lowers waste and maintenance expenses while also enhancing

the shopping experience. Additionally, cleanliness can encourage client loyalty and accountability.

According to Angel Alberto (2020), The "Clean as You Go" policy positively impacts students' classroom cleanliness and discipline. It helps students focus on their studies and improves their

understanding of the importance of maintaining a clean environment. However, grade 12 students faced struggles maintaining classroom cleanliness. The policy helps prevent diseases like dust

and discomfort, which can hinder productivity. Overall, the "Clean as You Go" policy is a valuable tool for maintaining classroom cleanliness.

Shoplifting

Best Option: The best recommended option is employ an trained security watchman in 7/11 convenience store for stopping and to reduce the conceivable shoplifters and to make solid security

with the ability to manage such circumstances.

Reasoning: Hiring a trained security in 7-Eleven convenience store enhances the general safety and one more way of a prevention against shoplifters. While guards who are in on the stage

management can control threats as and when they arise, the mere parlance of security apparatuses (noise pollution) will work to dissuade potential thieves from attempting their luck. Preparation

saves the face of the brand, provides safety for clients and associates and reduced shoplifting incidences.

Based on the study that Adelon Jr. Mindanao and Janwel Racelis (2021) They sought to determine the working conditions and issues faced by security guards in both public and private

institutions. The data was collected from a sample of fifty respondents. The results showed problems like inadequate pay and benefits, discrimination, theft, and verbal abuse. Emphasizing the

value of favorable working conditions, the researchers advise businesses to modify employee policies and pay in order to preserve a positive working environment for security guards.

Product Expiration

Best Option: The best recommended option that has been implemented for the problem of expiration of the products is that 7-Eleven convenience store should offer discounts on the products

that are close to their expiration date, especially when fresh food and prepackaged meals, to reduce waste while still moving inventory.

Reasoning: To help reduce waste, supermarkets offer discounts on products that will soon expire to entice shoppers into purchasing them earlier. This helps avoid losses from spoiled products

while enticing deal-conscious consumers and rapid turnover of merchandise.

According to (Akkas A., Sahoo N. 2017.) Product expiration is a significant issue in the consumer packaged goods sector, reducing revenue and producing a lot of waste. Selecting shelf space

can be an operational lever to manage perishable inventory expiration, according to our proposal. Toward this goal, the researchers first describe the circumstances under which shelf space

affects expiry and then devise a technique to calculate the ideal shelf space level that takes this effect into account. The researchers approach involves employing an infinite horizon Markov chain

model to design a shelf space selection problem for a single product. The researchers develop closed-form equations for the average net profit, order levels, and expiry level.
