Instructions for the Software Update of the
BOWA electrosurgical generator ARC 400
The software update must be performed in 4 individual steps.
These are as follows:
Step 1: Device driver installation of transmission cable (70278)
Step 2: Installation of the software „Arc400-Update“ on laptop or PC
Step 3: Transmission of the ARC 400 software package, part 1
Step 4: Transmission of the ARC 400 software package, part 2
On the following pages you will find a detailed description of the update process.
The time needed for the complete update is approx. 20 minutes.

Step 1:
Device driver Installation of transmission cable (70278)
1. Connect the transmission cable to the USB port of the laptop/PC.
2. Depending on your operating system, the installation of the device driver for the transmission
cable may start automatically or may have to be performed manually. The device driver is
installed automatically as part of a Windows update when installing manually.
3. Once the driver has been successfully installed, the transfer cable can be used.

Step 2:
Installation of the software „Arc400-Update“ on laptop or PC
1. Open the folder of the USB stick with your Windows Explorer.
The following files should appear on it:
2. Launch the Setup.exe file from folder “Installer”.
Following window will pop-up.
3. Click on [Next].
4. Select the destination folder.
Default folder: C:\program Files\Arc400-Update\
5. Click on [Next] to confirm your selection.
6. Click on [Next] to start the installation.

7. The Installation will start within the next approx.15 seconds.
The installation status is indicated by the green progress bar.
8. Click on [Finish] to confirm that the installation has been successfully completed.
9. Restart your computer to apply all system settings.

Step 3:
Transmission of the ARC 400 software package, part 1
1. Connect the transmission cable to the USB port of the PC/laptop and to the
ARC 400 communication interface.
2. Launch the installed Arc400-Update.exe program from the destination folder.
Default folder: C:\Program Files\Arc400-Update\
3. Switch the ARC 400 unit on and wait for it to boot up.
4. Click on [START] to initiate the transfer.

5. The data transfer starts and will take approx. 5 minutes.
The download status is indicated by the blue progress bar.
Note:
During the data transfer you will hear the internal relays clattering from time to time.
10. Once the software package will have been successfully transmitted, the following window
will pop up. Click on [OK] to confirm the information.

6. The File name must be the same as the serial number of your ARC 400 device.

This file is used as a confirmation of the successful transmission of the ARC 400 software.

8. Use the main switch to switch the unit off.
9. Unplug the transmission cable from the ARC 400 communication interface.

Transmission of the ARC 400 software package, part 2
10. Connect the BOWA USB stick to the ARC 400 USB interface.
11. Switch the unit on.
12. The update starts automatically, and the following screen will appear.

13. The update process takes approx. 10 minutes. After the successful update process, the
following message appears: „Update complete – please reboot the System“.

14. Switch the unit off.
15. Disconnect the USB stick from the ARC 400 communication interface.

16. Switch the unit on.
17. Now a calibration of the touch screen must be performed.
Step by step, touch the cross-hairs (1-5) appearing on the screen.
Attention:
During this process, do not touch the screen anywhere else but at the required crosshairs.

18. After a short startup phase, the main screen will be visible.

19. In the menu, touch the button [BOWA Service].
20. To ensure that the update process is complete, please check the device version that
appears on the screen. The correct device version is as follows: 1.0.0.3.4.4
Now the update is completed and the ARC 400 can be used as usual.
