GAME
METHODOLOGY
- The game continues until the side where the FWS
always go continuously is exhausted and the
change of front is proposed by the BACKS.
- At least one BACK must be involved in each
continuation.
- After the initial movement, channel 10 is attacked
and after this the ball goes to channel 3.
- FWS work by percussing trying to play on foot
contact.
- The Ruck is the last option to use.
MAUL FORMATION
1st. MOVEMENT

2nd. MOVEMENT

3rd. MOVEMENT
Ruck
• Cleaning AREA

• Consolidation
Attention: involve a maximum of 4
players
Forming a ruck involving more
than that is unproductive.
Re-release of the game
• Slow Ball: When we do not
penetrate the rival defense.
• Arrangement 1-2-3-4. They are all
options for 9.

• Dynamic: When we penetrate the

rival defense, continuing 1-2-3, all are
options for the 9.

• Hands free: relaunching a slow ball

to transform it into a fast ball.
DEFENSE - Considerations
• The concept we are going to use is to be
offensive even without possession of the
ball.
PRESSUR Take away space and time for
E! the decision-making of the
possessing team.
• Perfect tackling technique that allows us
to be offensive and to be permanently in
the game
AIM

• Recover the ball

• Stop the advance of the attack
• Occupy the spaces
• Interrupt the continuity of the game
• Prevent points from being scored on us
Important Notes:

• Know and respect the regulations

• A lot of firmness in the 1vs 1 tackle
• Focus the marking from inside out to induce
the attacker to run sideways (towards touch)
• defensive organization.
• Remember that the best ball to attack is the
one recovered.
• All players must know the defensive system
perfectly.
DEFENSE
GENERAL ORGANIZATION

• GUARD, POST, ONE, TWO, BALL

• We respect half a meter from the foot of the last man (Ruck) to
defend (attack) (Offensive Tackle)
• Position yourself on the attacker's inside shoulder in his
channel.
• We form planes for Red (same or more defenders) and barely
staggered (we run or float -less defenders-)
• Respect posture (we look forward and at the ruck).
• We all communicate constantly: one-to-one information.
• TACKLE AND CONTAGION
• Important: The tackle ends with the executor standing.

Role of defenders
• Guard (axial post): View over the ball, covers the center of the
deep axis. Then second curtain. Organize and communicate

• Posts: view on the ball, defend their space (deep axis) internal
support. Wait for the ball to move away before intervening.

• Internal supports (one, two) view on the ball, communicate the

exit, defend internal threats on their space, defensive support of
the leader.

• Ball (leader) seen in space, marks and presses the receiver,

manages the exit and the pace of the run, after his intervention
he is internal support for the following defender

Defensive lines
• 1st CURTAIN: large number of players,
compact structure close to the formations,
plane wing alignment, repositioning on the
deep and lateral axis, favoring the fastest
players on the outside (fixed)

• 3rd CURTAIN: formed by the full back and the

wings, defends the kicks from deep space
and from the man in case of overcoming the
other two curtains (fixed)

DEFENSE FROM
FIXED FORMATIONS
SCRUM - LEFT 5 Mts FROM TOUCH. (BLIND)
9 marks 8 at the base, goes back along his lane and forms the second defensive line.
6 to the first attacker. If you mark glued, the 8 marks the outer side.
The free back (11) goes forward. 10, 15 and 7 form the second defensive line.
THIS CONCEPT APPLIES TO ALL POSITIONS
SCRUM - LEFT 5 Mts FROM TOUCH. (OPEN)
9 marks base and threatens 10, then forms 2nd line of defense.
7 threatens the 10 as an inside player of his 10, then forms the 2nd line of defense.
8 He comes out from inside the 10 and forms the second line of defense.
They must regulate their career. If they go too far forward, they will move away from their
own back line.
The rest of the pack moves forward and then forms a second line of defense.
The Backs mark the outside of their opponent and move to the inside of the next one (take
it to touch). 15 marks outside and 11 covers 15's place. 9.7 and they are the 2nd defensive
line

Left larger space 15 mts Open

The 9 marks the base and presses the 10 inside. The 7 marks inside 10, the 8 marks inside
the 10, regulating his run, and then the 3 form the 2nd defensive line.
The rest of the pack moves forward and then forms a second line of defense.
The Backs run the marker (they would leave the 10 free), and mark by moving outwards
(outside foot of their opponent and moving to the inside foot of the next one, leading to
touch). 15 and 10 go into deep space and 11 takes the place of 15
Defence – Movements from the full lineout
The 6 presses the 9 and if it opens it goes to the 10. The 7 is wide open (to the place
where the 10 passes to the 12) to force the 10 to step inside (covering the 8, 6 and 9). The
rest of the forwards go forward first and then form the 2nd screen. Backs score by moving.
