Assignment 1 –WRIT 1 (Individual work)

 Demonstrate a critical understanding of the role and function of marketing in a variety or


market and organisational contexts.
 Critically evaluate and utilise marketing research data and methods to a given marketing
situation.
 Apply and evaluate the principles of organisational and environmental audits to inform
marketing strategies, decisions and objectives.
 Develop and justify a marketing plan and mix for a given target market.

Task 1 (500 words)

Marketing communication is an important part of brand building. Select a product or service


brand or your choice and critically evaluate how marketing communication has helped build the
brand. You must refer to the main marketing communication activities implemented by the
marketer to create awareness for the brand, and generate interest and desire. Refer to the
relevant marketing models relevant to this question such as the Awareness, Interest, Desire,
Action (AIDA) and other relevant models. (25 marks)

Task 2 (500 words)

Critically analyse the importance of the Marketing Audit as part of the marketing planning
process. Relate examples as art of your answer. Remember to refer to the three levels macro-
environment, micro-environment and internal analysis in relation to a product or service brand.
(30 marks)

Task 3 (500 words)

Select a product or service brand that has experienced ethical issues in marketing and critically
analyse the issues and recommend solutions as a marketing consultant. You can select a local or
overseas brand. (25 marks)

Task 4 (500 words)

Critically analyse the steps of the Marketing Plan for a selected brand and recommend
improvements to improve performance in a consulting capacity. Your answer should involve
brand performance analysis relating to STP and competitor analysis. Relate available market
facts and figures relevant to the brand’s market, customers and competitors. Remember to
reference the sources of information according to the Harvard Method. (20 marks).

You must use Harvard Referencing system throughout your work. Correct in-text referencing is
required and a full and correct reference list needs to be provided. Please note for academic
acceptance, it is important to refer to adequate sources in building critical arguments with regard
to this assignment. The lecturer expects a minimum of 10 latest sources from accepted
recommended journals, required reading and recommended readings. For a list of required
and recommended reading, please refer the “Module Specification” section of the student
handbook.
