YARN

Höner och Eir Nutiden (100% Swedish wool, single ply pre-yarn)

Yarn is held single.

Approximately 10 g in total weight ( 50 m / 55 yards) for a one pin cushion.

NEEDLES

One set of 2.75 mm / US 2 dpns or your preferred needles for working small circumferences in the round.
If you are using circular needles, you will also need an additional needle in the same size for 3-Needle Bind Off.

MEASUREMENT

10 cm x 10 cm / 4” x 4”

NOTIONS

1 stitch marker, tapestry needle, waste yarn for provisional cast on (preferably of a slightly heavier yarn weight than
your working yarn, smooth and will not felt with your working yarn)

GAUGE

Gauge is not important, but just for your information, the samples are knitted with a gauge of
27 sts and 29 rows = 10 cm / 4” in colourwork chart with 2.75 mm / US 2 needles

NOTE

1. There are places in the pattern where floats, the strands of yarn that run across the back of colourwork
fabric, are more than 3 sts long. It is a good idea to trap the floats so that they are not more than 3 sts long.
A link to a tutorial video on how to do so is included on p. 3.

2. In the samples, contrasting colours are held as the dominant colour.

3. Nutiden, being an unspun pre-yarn, can be fragile. I have a few tips for knitting colourwork successfully with
this yarn in single strands.
● It helps to wind the yarn into smaller balls that roll easily as you knit. If you are knitting directly from
the plates, regularly pause to unroll some yarns from the plates so that you are not tugging the
plates to release more yarn as you knit.
● Swatch to get used to knitting with the right tension without breaking the yarn.
● Some colourways may be thinner than others. You may need to double your yarn.
● If your yarn breaks, it is easy to join the yarn by overlapping the ends and rubbing them together
between your palms.
● If a small part of your yarn thins out too much accidentally, break the yarn, overlap the ends and
join it back.

INSTRUCTION

Using MC and 2.75 mm / US 2 needles, cast on 54 sts with provisional cast on.
A tutorial video on how the cast on is done using dpns is linked below for your reference.

PM and join to knit in the round.

Knit 2 rounds.

Begin working Round 1 of Chart, attaching CC as it begins on the chart. Read each round from right to left and
change colours where indicated. Complete all rounds in Chart. Break CC.

Knit 2 rounds with MC.

Distribute your sts so that the first 27 sts are on one needle, and the next 27 sts are on another needle. Seam the
edges using 3-Needle Bind Off.

Transfer the first 27 sts held in the provisional cast on onto one needle, and the next 27 sts onto another needle.
Remove the waste yarn. If you prefer, re-arrange your sts so that the right leg of each st is in front, and the left leg
is at the back.

Fill your cushion with fleece or saved yarn ends or yarns from old swatches.

Close the cushion using 3-Needle Bind Off.

FINISHING

Weave in ends. Steam block your pin cushion, or soak it to let the yarn bloom, then gently squeeze out excess
water. Shape the cushion and let it dry completely.
