A Daily Lesson Plan in

Polygons

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards: The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of
geometry of shapes and sizes, and geometric relationships.
B. Performance Standards: The learner is able to create models of plane figures and
formulate and solve accurately authentic problems involving sides and angles of a
polygon.
C. Learning Competencies: The learner illustrates polygons: (a) convexity; (b) angles;
and (c) sides.
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. define and illustrate polygons;
2. determine polygons and non-polygons.

II. CONTENT
A. Topic: Introduction to Polygons
B. Prerequisite:
C. Methodology: Inductive / Deductive Method
D. Materials: Projector, Smart TV, Blackboard, Chalk
E. Values: Enthusiasm, Appreciation, Critical Thinking, and Analytical Thinking.

REVIEW

Identify Me!
Direction: Identify what term is being
described in each item.

1. It is a ray, line, or line segment that 1. Bisector

divides something into two equal
parts. 2. Compass
2. It is an instrument for drawing circles
and arcs and measuring distances
between points. 3. Perpendicular Bisector
3. It is a line perpendicular to another
line that divides the original line into
two congruent parts. 4. Straightedge
4. It is a ruler (with or without units)
used to guide in making a straight line
or figure. 5. Angle Bisector
5. It is a line that divides an angle into
two adjacent angles that are
congruent.

MOTIVATION

Activity 1: Be An Observant!
Directions: Observe the following shapes
or figures, which of these do you think are
polygons and non-polygons. The polygons are shape numbers 2, 5, 6,
10, 12, 13, 14.

The non-polygons are shape numbers 1, 3,

4, 8, 9, 11

Let’s group this sets of shapes and figures
into two.

POLYGONS NON-POLYGONS Polygons – is a closed plane figure
What is polygons? formed by three or more segments called
sides.
And also, each side intersects exactly two
other sides, once at each endpoints.

Aside from that, what else?

polygon and each endpoint where the
sides meet is called the vertex of the

Again, what do we call a polygon with 7
sides?
Very Good! Pentagon

What do we call a polygon that has 9

sides?
Good Job!

What do we call a polygon that has 5

sides?
Pentagon
That’s Right!

Then, if a polygon has 11 sides, what do

Undecagon
we call it?
