SPARK High School Need-to-Know Guide 2025

School Location: 320 York Avenue, Randburg

Instructional Calendar and School Hours

Please refer to the instructional Calendar for term dates, school hours, minimum days, report card
conferences, and public holidays.

Start dates for 2025:

Grade 11: 20 January
Grade 12: 15 January

Arrival and school entrance

The school gates open for arrivals at 6:45am daily. Parents and transport drivers must enter into the
parking lot and follow the cones to the gate where someone will direct your scholar to the astro.

Parents and transport drivers must have their SPARK High School placard visible to enter the school
gates. After 7:30 am, tardy scholars must report to the reception area for attendance before going to
class.

Dismissal

1. SPARK High starts its dismissal process from 14:45 and concludes it at 15:00 from Tuesday to Friday.
2. The gate will open at precisely 14:35 to allow parents to enter the parking lot in preparation for
dismissal.
3. On Mondays, dismissal will start at 14:15, and the gate will open at 14:00.
4. Parents and transport drivers will be required to showcase their placards in order to collect their
scholars.
5. Please note that parents/guardians are requested not to park but rather follow the loop as indicated
in the map.
6. Transport drivers will be permitted to park their vehicles, collect their scholars and then depart.
7. Late Pick-Up Fee: Late pick-ups are billed per half hour, or part thereof. There is a 15-minute grace
period for collection, but late billing begins from dismissal time.

For example, if dismissal is at 14:15 pm, collection may take place until 14:30 pm. However, if the child is
collected at 14:45 pm, the parent will be billed for one half-hour period.

Self-transporting scholars

At SPARK High Schools, parents are able to sign their scholars up for self-transport. Self-transport
scholars are scholars that transport themselves [walking, taking public transport) to and from school.
Self-transporting scholars must have their self-transporting pass with them at dismissal time to exit the
premises.

All parents are to indicate the transport mode that will be used in the following link
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1kJaBtjmi4g9jMNrsTk1lO3KVKfhHoX9XW-LfsRH6Q98/edit
Placard Pick-up
Placards will be available to be collected from the 09th of January to the 16th of January at the school
office.
Placards that have not been collected will be given to the scholars.

Learning Material Fee and Device levy

The annual Learning Material fee includes all classroom resources, workbooks, club resources, and Nexus
project resources and files. Scholars are allocated a tablet that will house all their textbooks and setworks
for the year. Parents must purchase consumable stationery such as pens, pencils, rulers, math sets and
erasers for use at home and school. Scholars will also require a Casio scientific calculator to be used at
home and school.

The school will issue workbooks to scholars in each subject for use both at home and at school.

Summer uniform
SPARK High’s uniform is a blue SPARK Schools golf shirt and khaki pants/skirts with black takkies.
Parents can purchase the uniform at School and Leisure or RUFARO. Toughees and windbreakers will not
be accepted as appropriate school uniform.
Winter uniform

House and sports Uniform

Beyond the Bell
SPARK High Schools’ After-School Program is offered for scholars from dismissal time until 5:30pm.
Scholars who are picked up late will incur late pick-up fees as per the Beyond the bell contract.

Please note that a full list of what activities will be offered during this program will be shared early in
the term.

Transport Guide

SPARK Schools does not provide, promote, or endorse any scholar transport. Parents/guardians, who
decide to make use of scholar transport, do so at their own risk. Transport drivers must provide a
placard to pick up any scholar, as they will not be allowed to pick up any scholar without a placard.
Further, if a transport driver is late to pick-up a scholar or violates the school rules and regulations, the
parents of the scholar will be held responsible.

We encourage all SPARK parents to ensure that the transport supplier they use complies with the
norms and standards of learner transport in the National Transport Policy. Their transport driver must
have a driver’s license and public driver’s permit, and they must have a valid license disc for their
vehicle. Please ensure your child’s transport driver can produce a roadworthy certificate for their
vehicle.

Finally, the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa, of which SPARK Schools is a member,
has advised against the use of Uber by scholars, owing to Uber’s age restrictions, which are set out in
its Terms and Conditions and indicate that no person under the age of 18 may use their service. SPARK
Schools will not allow any scholars to be picked by an Uber (or equivalent), unaccompanied by a
parent or guardian.
