NFPA standards and the TAQA/ADDC standard specification ref. W-M-SS-010, Rev. 0,
Specification for Fire Protection System. All NFPA sections shall be as per the latest NFPA standard
editions.
• Clean Agent System
• Portable Fire Extinguishers
• Fire Detection and Alarm System
All firefighting material of construction, equipment details and other parameters shall be with UL/FM
approval.
Clean Agent System

Clean agent fire suppression system shall be provided for fire protection of the electrical & control
room and battery room of the Booster pump stations as shown on the drawings.
Clean Agent system shall be in accordance with NFPA 2001 and UAE Fire and Life Safety Code of
Practice. FM-200/Novec 1230 clean agent system to be proposed clean agent system for the Booster
Pump Stations of the project. However, the clean agent system for the project shall be finalized by the
Contractor in coordination with ADDC firefighting section and shall be subject to ADCD approval.
Clean agent fire suppression shall be complete with detectors, cabling, piping, nozzles,
hangers/supports, fixed agent cylinder storage racks and manifolds with all relevant accessories.
The system shall be designed as a total automatic flooding type-high pressure system and the amount
of gas shall be at least sufficient for the largest single hazard area to be protected with 100% standby
capacity. The supply of the gas to the different hazard areas shall be provided via piping manifolds.
The primary emphasis on the design of clean agent fire suppression system shall be on reliability. All
similar equipment shall be of identical design. Each system shall be designed to provide the required
clean agent concentration by volume in protected zone/area for the type of protected equipment in the
particular environment as per NFPA. Clean agent fire suppression system shall be of the engineered
type, permanently piped, fixed nozzle type with all relevant components provided.
The Clean Agent cylinders shall be installed in suitable location within the electrical & control room.
Common manifold shall be provided to connect multiple cylinders. Clean Agent storage cylinders
shall manifold together to a common discharge header which shall be securely mounted in an upright
position in framing hardware specifically designed for cylinders being utilized or dedicated cylinders
for each area. System shall consist of main plus 100% connected reserve.
The clean agent system shall be linked to the fire detection and alarm systems and HVAC systems.
The clean agent shall be safe, effective and environmentally friendly with the following factors:
• Zero ozone depletion potential
• 5-day atmospheric lifetime
• Global warming potential of 1
The Clean agent system shall consist of the following minimum components:
• Clean agent storage container - These containers shall be capable of being filled in one- pound
increments of clean agent gas. The clean agent discharge shall be activated by an output directly
from the multi-release control panel, which will activate the solenoid in the releasing device.
• Discharge valve assembly- The valve assembly shall be factory-fitted to the container and
supplied pre-assembled with a low pressure switch, pressure gauge and burst disc. Each clean

agent system shall use a solenoid operated releasing device that causes discharge of all storage
containers in the system. Each releasing device shall be separately supervised and operated
directly from the release control panel.
• Flexible discharge hose - The flexible discharge hose is connected to each manifold valve outlet.
A swivel fitting at the inlet of the hose enables the container to be readily coupled to the
distribution piping network.
• Check valve - The cylinders shall be installed so that each individual cylinder can be easily
mounted and shall be fitted with a non-return valve (Check valve) to the manifold if there is more
than one cylinder to prevent loss of extinguishing agent and to ensure personnel safety if the
system is operated when any containers are removed for maintenance.
• Manifold and Piping network - The manifold and piping materials shall be ERW ASTM A53
Galvanized seamless carbon steel pipe of schedule 80. All pipework shall be coated with anti-
corrosive paint.
• Discharge nozzles - The nozzles shall be selected based on the 10 seconds discharge time as per
UAE fire code and shall be made of stainless-steel and shall be equipped with an integral strainer
to prevent matter inside the distribution piping from clogging the nozzle orifice. Each nozzle
orifice shall be provided with a seal to protect the nozzle from clogging by grease or other
obstructions. This seal shall detach upon actuation. Each size shall come in a style of 360 and 180
degrees dispersion patterns. The nozzle used shall be provided with pipe threads that correspond
to the nozzle size. The nozzle used shall be FM approved and UL listed.
• Abort switch - Abort switch shall be located within the protected area and shall be located near
the means of egress for the area. The abort switch shall be of a type that requires constant manual
pressure to cause abort. In all cases the normal and manual emergency control shall override the
abort function. Operation of the abort function shall result in both audible and distinct visual
indication of system impairment.
• Manual release station - Manual station shall immediately discharge extinguishing agent when
activated.
• Detectors, warning signs & alarms and multi-release control panel.
Portable Fire Extinguishers

Portable fire extinguishers shall be provided in accordance with NFPA 10 and UAE Fire and Life
Safety Code of Practice, as shown on the drawings.
Portable type dry powder fire extinguishers shall be provided in sufficient quantities inside all
facilities, rooms and areas of the Booster Pump Stations.
Portable carbon dioxide (CO2) extinguishers shall be provided for any rooms housing electronic
equipment or data processing equipment.
Following Portable fire extinguishers shall be strategically placed in each zone of the Booster pump
stations as shown on the drawings,
• Dry Powder Fire Extinguisher – 5 kg
• CO2 Fire Extinguisher – 5 kg
Amount and locations of fire extinguishers shall be in accordance with NFPA 10 and UAE Fire and
Life Safety Code of Practice.
