same time. If the cars travel in the same direction at different speeds, they meet in 5 hours. If
they travel towards each other, they meet in 1 hour. What are the speeds of the two cars?

A two-digit number is seven times the sum of its digits. The number formed by reversing the
digits is 18 less than the original number. Find the number.

28. Find the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial x2 + 7x + 10 and verify the relationship between the

iii. What is the probability of getting a total of at least 10?

SECTION D
(This section comprises of long answer-type questions (LA) of 5 marks each)

32. The speed of a boat in still water is 15 km/hr. It can go 30 km upstream and return downstream
to the original point in 4 hours 30 minutes. Find the speed of the stream.
OR
A fast train takes 3 hours less than a slow train for a journey of 600 km. If the speed of the slow
train is 10 km/hr less than that of the fast train, find the speeds of the two trains.

33. State and prove Basic proportionality theorem.

Due to sudden floods, some welfare associations jointly requested the government to get 100

tents fixed immediately and offered to contribute 50% of the cost. If the lower part of each tent
is of the form of a cylinder of diameter 4.2 m and height 4 m with the conical upper part of same
diameter but of height 2.8 m, and the canvas to be used costs 100 per sq. m, find the amount, the
association will have to pay. (use π = 22/7)

This section comprises of 3 case study/passage -based questions of 4 marks each with three
sub-parts (i),(ii),(iii) of marks 1,1,2 respectively. An internal choice has been provided in
the 2marks questions.

36. Case study 1


Treasure Hunt game
While playing a treasure hunt game, some clues(numbers) hidden in various spots collectively
forms an AP. If the number on the nth spot is 20 + 4n, then answer the following questions to
help the player in spotting the clues.

i) Which number is on the 1st spot?


ii) Which spot is numbered as 116?
iii) Is there a spot numbered 120? If yes, what is the position?
OR
iii) Write the sum of all the numbers in the first 10 spots.

37. Case study 2


Tharunya was thrilled to know that the football tournament is fixed with a monthly timeframe
from 20th July to 20th August 2023 and for the first time in the FIFA Women’s World Cup’s
history, two nations host in 10 venues. Her father felt that the game can be better understood if
the position of players is represented as points on a coordinate plane.

(i) At an instance, the midfielders and forward formed a parallelogram. Find the position
of the central midfielder (D) if the position of other players who formed the
parallelogram are :- A(1,2), B(4,3) and C(6,6)
(ii) If Defensive midfielder A(1,4), Attacking midfielder B(2,-3) and Striker E(a,b) lie on

the same straight line and B is equidistant from A and E, find the position of E.
(iii) Check if the Goal keeper G(-3,5), Sweeper H(3,1) and Wing-back K(0,3) fall on a
same straight line.
OR
(iii)Check if the Full-back J(5,-3) and centre-back I(-4,6) are equidistant from
forward C(0,1) and if C is the mid-point of IJ.

38. Case study 2


Kapil is standing in the balcony of his house. He observes two cars, one on either side
( say point A and B)

(i) If the height at which kapil is standing is 3 m and the distance of one of the
car from the foot of the house is 3 m, then what is the angle of depression of
this car as observed kapil?

(ii) As the car approaches towards the house, what will happen to the angle of
depression?

(iii) At an instant, the angle of depression of two cars were found to be 300 and 600
respectively. If the height at which kapil is standing is 3 m, find the distance
between the two cars.
OR
iii)If the height of the house and the distance of the point of observation from
the foot of house both are increased by 10%, then what is the change in
angle of elevation of its top from point of observation?
