General Instructions:

i) The question paper consists of 39 questions in 5 sections.


ii) All questions are compulsory. However, an internal choice is provided in
some questions. A student is expected to attempt only one of these

iii) Section-A consists of 20 objectives - type questions of 1 mark each.
iv) Section-B consists of 6 very short questions of 2 marks each. Answers to
these questions should be in the range of 30 to 50 words.
v) Section-C consists of 7 short answer type questions of 3marks each.
Answers to these questions should be in the range of 50 to 80 words.
vi) Section-D consists of 3 long answer type questions of 5marks each.
Answers to these questions should be in the range of 80 to 120 words.
vii) Section – E consists of 3 source based / case- based units of assessment
of 4 marks each with sub – parts.

focal length 10 cm. Find the position, size and the nature of the image
formed. Draw the corresponding ray diagram.

b. Also calculate the power of the given lens.

SECTION – E

Question No 37 to 39 are case based / data based questions with 2 to 3 short


sub parts. Internal choice is provided in one of these sub parts

37. We know that acid base indicators can be used to distinguish between acids
and bases. We can judge how strong a given acid or a base is by using a
universal indicator or a pH scale. pH plays an important role in everyday
life. Our body works within the pH range of 7 to 7.8. Salts are formed in

various reactions. Sea water contains many dissolved salts. The common salt
is used as an important raw material for various materials of daily use.
Ethanoic acid is commonly called as acetic acid and a dilute solution of
acetic acid is used as a preservative in pickles.

a. i. Write the chemical name and the chemical formula of the compound
which is used for disinfecting water to make it free of germs. 1M
ii. Write a chemical equation to show what happens when plaster of
paris is mixed with water. 1M

b. Name the products formed when ethanoic acid reacts with sodium. What
will be the nature of the salt formed and its pH? 2M

OR

b. What are structural isomers? Draw the two possible structures of butane.

38. Observe the following diagram and answer the following questions. 4M

I) Identify and name two parts where no digestion occurs

II) The pancreatic duct which carries pancreatic secretion to the small
intestine is blocked. Will this affect the release of insulin? Justify your
answer.

III)Write any two consequences of blockage of the bile duct which


carries bile from the gall bladder to the small intestine.

39. Ohm’s law is perhaps the most popularly known of all the laws and theories
of electrical sciences. The law forms the starting point in the study of
electrical networks and it has reserved, forever, a place of honour for Ohm.
Any resistance device or conductor which obey ohms’ law is called ohmic
resistors. Different materials like alloys, conductors, insulators are
commonly used in our day to day life.

1. State Ohms law. 1M

2. Will current flow more easily through a thick wire or a thin wire of the
same material? Why? 1M

3. i. In the experiment to study the dependence of current on the potential


difference across a resistor, a student obtained a graph as shown. Calculate
the resistance of the resistor. 2M

3. Two wires of equal lengths, one of copper and the other of nichrome, have
