Course Objectives
 Upon completion of this course, students will be able to
 Describe the basic mechanisms of disease.
 Explain the key pathological processes.
 Identify the main causes and consequences of cell injury.
 Understand basic pathological changes and cellular adaptation.
 Identify and describe cell death, inflammation, and wound
healing.
 Demonstrate a basic understanding of how pathology relates to
clinical presentation.
Course description
 This introductory course provides a fundamental overview of
pathology, the study of disease. Students will explore the basic
mechanisms of disease, including cellular injury, inflammation, tissue
repair, and wound healing.
 The course will cover the core aspects of disease in pathology,
Diagnostic Methods used in pathology, Outcomes and consequences of
the disease, Clinical and biological death, Types of cellular adaptation,
Reversible cellular changes and accumulation, Cell injury, Cell death
(Apoptosis vs necrosis), Pathologic calcification.
 Emphasis will be placed on understanding the relationship between
structural changes and clinical manifestations of disease. This course is
designed to provide a foundational knowledge of pathology for
students.
