Field Study in education is a program designed for student teachers to observe and
understand the real-life teaching and learning process. It allows future educators to experience
classroom situations, learn from experienced teachers, and understand how theories are applied
in actual teaching. This program helps student teachers develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge
essential for their journey as educators. It provides a bridge between the theories learned in
school and the realities of teaching in a classroom. Through observation, student teachers can
explore various teaching methods, classroom management styles, and instructional strategies.
It is also an opportunity to reflect on their own teaching practices and identify areas for
improvement. Field Study is not just about observation—it’s about understanding the dynamics
of teaching and the challenges teachers face daily. It helps build confidence, inspire creativity,
and develop the passion necessary for the teaching profession. This practical exposure is an
important step in shaping responsible and effective future educators.
During my Field Study experience at Dumaguete City National High School, I had the privilege of
observing a teacher who handled a technology-related subject. It was a meaningful experience to
watch how the teacher engaged the students, used various teaching strategies, and managed the
classroom environment. The teacher demonstrated how technology could enhance learning, making
lessons more interactive and engaging for students. He skillfully integrated tools like multimedia
presentations and online resources to simplify complex topics. I also observed how she handled
questions from students, encouraging curiosity and critical thinking. His ability to maintain discipline
while creating a friendly atmosphere was remarkable. The experience showed me the importance of
adapting to the needs of students and being innovative in teaching. It also gave me a deeper
appreciation of the effort and dedication it takes to be a teacher.
This portfolio, titled "My Field Study Experience," highlights the key moments,
lessons, and reflections from my time as a student teacher observer. It provides a detailed
account of my learning journey, focusing on how observing a technology-related class has
shaped my understanding of effective teaching. Each section captures different aspects of the
classroom experience, from instructional methods to student engagement techniques. The
portfolio also includes my reflections on how these observations connect with the theories I
learned in my education classes. By compiling my insights and realizations, this portfolio
serves as both a record of my growth and a guide for my future teaching practices. The
experience has given me confidence in my ability to adapt and learn as a future educator.
Ultimately, it has strengthened my desire to make a positive impact on my students’ learning
journey.

I noticed how he used questioning techniques to probe deeper
into the students’ understanding, fostering critical thinking. This
approach not only validated their efforts but also highlighted
areas for improvement.
After the reporting sessions, the teacher introduced a
follow-up activity that required students to analyze real-life
scenarios involving media and information. The task was
designed to reinforce the concepts discussed during the
presentations and to apply these ideas in a practical context.
The students were tasked to evaluate a piece of news,
identifying its source, credibility, and potential biases.
Observing this activity helped me realize the importance of
connecting theoretical knowledge with real-world application.
Students appeared more engaged as they tackled contemporary
issues, which made learning relevant and meaningful.
The week concluded with a reflection session where
students shared their learning experiences. They discussed
challenges they faced during their presentations and how they
overcame them. My cooperating teacher facilitated this
discussion, ensuring that every student had a chance to speak.
As a student teacher, I learned a lot about the
importance of fostering a supportive learning environment
where students feel confident to express their ideas. I also
realized how essential it is to connect lessons to real-life
applications, especially in a subject like MIL.

highlighting different fonts and their appropriate usage. This activity not only showcased the students’ creativity but also deepened
their understanding of design principles and effective communication.
At the start of the session, my cooperating teacher explained the activity's objectives, emphasizing how font choice and
design can impact the message a poster conveys. She elaborated on how fonts evoke emotions, influence readability, and
communicate specific tones, making them a critical element in media and information literacy. To manage the flow of the activity, my
cooperating teacher used a simple yet effective strategy: assigning a color to determine the sequence of presenters. This method
added an element of surprise and excitement for the students while maintaining fairness and order.
During the presentations, each student shared their poster slogans, explaining their font choices and design elements. The
teacher encouraged them to articulate the reasons behind their creative decisions, such as selecting bold fonts for emphasis or cursive
fonts for elegance. I admired how the teacher used this opportunity to give constructive feedback, pointing out strengths like balance
in design and areas for improvement such as font consistency. She also reinforced the importance of aligning fonts with the intended
message and audience, making the discussion highly practical.
This week reminded me of the importance of integrating creativity and real-world applications into teaching. It also inspired me to
consider how I can incorporate similar engaging activities into my future lessons. I realized that teaching is not just about imparting
knowledge but also about nurturing students’ ability to think, create, and communicate effectively.
This week at Dumaguete City
National High School (DCNHS), I observed
my cooperating teacher lead a thought-
provoking discussion on the importance of
utilizing technology in today’s world. The
session highlighted the role of technology
in business and marketing, culminating in
an activity where students were tasked to
write an essay about using technology to
promote a product.
The lesson began with a dynamic discussion on how technology has revolutionized the way businesses operate. My cooperating
teacher emphasized the vast opportunities that digital tools provide, from online advertising to social media platforms and e-commerce
websites. Real-life examples of successful businesses that leverage technology were shared, making the topic relatable and engaging for the
students.
The teacher also addressed the ethical considerations and challenges in using technology for business, such as data privacy and
misinformation. This balanced perspective encouraged the students to think critically about both the benefits and responsibilities associated
with technology use. After the discussion, the students were given an activity to write an essay on how technology can be used for business
purposes, specifically in promoting a product. My cooperating teacher provided guidelines for the essay, encouraging students to include
examples, discuss different digital tools, and reflect on the effectiveness of these methods in reaching a target audience.
I noticed how the teacher gave students ample time to brainstorm their ideas before writing, and he circulated the room to provide
individual guidance. This approach ensured that students felt supported and confident in completing the task.
This week’s experience deepened my understanding of the importance of integrating technology into teaching. Observing how the
students responded to the discussion and activity affirmed my belief that connecting lessons to current trends and practical applications makes
learning more impactful.
As a future educator, I realized the need to stay updated on technological advancements and how they influence different aspects of
life, especially education and business. It also inspired me to think about how I can design similar activities that encourage critical thinking and
creativity among students.
During the sixth week of our field study, Dumaguete City National High School
(DCNHS) was filled with energy and excitement as everyone prepared for the much-
anticipated 2024 Intramurals. The entire campus buzzed with activity as students practiced
their favorite sports, such as basketball, volleyball, badminton, and even track and field
events. The preparations involved not only the athletes but also their classmates and
teachers, who worked hard to ensure the event’s success. Since the school was fully focused
on the Intramurals, classes were suspended, allowing students to dedicate their time and
effort to the activities. As student teachers, we were fortunate to witness the grand opening
of the event, which showcased the creativity and unity of the school community. The parade
of teams, the cheering competitions, and the lighting of the torch were unforgettable
moments that highlighted the students’ determination and school spirit. It was inspiring to
see how much effort everyone put into making the event special.
The Intramurals also reminded me of the significant role sports play in the lives of
students. Engaging in sports is not just about physical activity; it helps students develop
essential life skills such as discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. Watching the students
compete, I realized that events like this are not only about winning medals or trophies but
also about fostering camaraderie and creating a sense of belonging among them. Sports bring
students together, regardless of their differences, and teach them how to respect one another
both on and off the field. Witnessing the students’ excitement and teamwork made me
appreciate how events like the Intramurals contribute to their overall growth, shaping them
into well-rounded individuals. It was a valuable reminder of the importance of supporting
such activities in schools, as they build not just strong athletes but also confident and resilient
young people.
This week’s field study was different because of the in-service training (INSET),
which meant there were no regular classes. It gave me a chance to observe how
teachers prepare and learn new strategies to improve their teaching. Though I
missed the usual interaction with students, I appreciated seeing the effort teachers
put into growing professionally. It reminded me that being an educator means
constantly learning and adapting to give the best to our students.
This week’s field study was focused on the students’ periodical exam. It was a
valuable experience to observe how teachers facilitated the exams, ensuring
fairness and maintaining discipline in the classroom. I learned the importance
of clear instructions, proper time management, and staying alert to assist
students when needed. It showed me that even during exams, teachers play a
crucial role in creating a calm and organized environment for students to
perform their best.
This is my last week of field study and it was quieter as there were no classes after
the periodical exams. Instead, students were busy preparing and creating
Christmas decorations, which brought a festive and cheerful atmosphere to the
school. I enjoyed seeing their creativity and teamwork. I also took the opportunity
to interview some students, which gave me valuable insights into their experiences
and perspectives. It was a meaningful way to connect with them and better
understand their needs and goals.
As my 9-week field study at Dumaguete
City National High School (DCNHS) comes to an
end, I find myself reflecting on the invaluable
experiences and lessons I’ve gained throughout
this journey. This field study allowed me to
