Triduum in Honor of St.
Vincent de Paul
First Day
Leader: St. Vincent de Paul was born in 1581. His parents were poor farmers, and he had five
siblings. From a young age, Vincent was skilled in reading and writing. His father sent him to the
seminary when Vincent was fifteen years old.
Vincent was not exceedingly religious in nature as a young man. Rather, his main interest in the
priesthood was in its ability to provide a comfortable lifestyle for himself and his family.
During his time in the seminary, he lived at a monastery with a group of Franciscan Friars and
studied at a very worldly university. He was ordained at age nineteen and continued studies in
theology and canon law.
Opening Song
Opening Prayer
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Dear Lord, we thank You for giving us Your priest, St. Vincent de Paul, as an example of
holiness. Help us to imitate the virtue that he developed during his life as a priest serving You in
the poor.
St. Vincent de Paul, you began your path to the priesthood at a young age. Even though you were
not immediately drawn to reach for holiness in this vocation, you opened yourself up to God’s
will and learned how to serve Him worthily. Pray that I can do the same.
You remained faithful to your vocation as a priest your whole life, even though you initially only
sought a comfortable lifestyle from it. Later in your life, you answered God’s call to serve Him
in a particular way through the poor.
Pray for me, that I may serve God as worthily as I can, in whatever manner He calls me to.
Please also pray for (mention your intentions here).
St. Vincent de Paul, pray for us!
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Luke 8:19-21
Leader: A reading from the holy Gospel according to St. Luke.
All: Glory to you, O Lord.
The mother of Jesus and his brothers came to him but were unable to join him because of the
crowd. He was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and they wish to see
you.” He said to them in reply, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God
and act on it.”
Reflection: The Family of God
Jesus’ words in Luke 8:19-21 are an invitation into a greater family, one bound not by blood but
by faith and obedience. As believers, we are part of this divine family. We share a common
purpose, mission, and eternal inheritance. When we live out the teachings of Jesus, we contribute
to the strengthening of this spiritual family. We encourage one another, bear each other’s
burdens, and build a community that reflects the love of God.
This truth is a source of great hope. Regardless of our background, past mistakes, or earthly
circumstances, we are invited to belong to God’s family. In this family, we find belonging,
purpose, and love that transcends the limits of this world.
Jesus is calling us to be more than just passive listeners. We are to hear His Word and act on it.
By doing so, we take our place as His family, living out His will and reflecting His love to the
world.
Our Father…
PRAYER OF THE VINCENTIAN FAMILY
Lord Jesus, you who willed to become poor, give us eyes and a heart directed toward the poor;
Help us to recognize you in them-in their thirst, Their hunger, their loneliness, and their
misfortune.
Enkindle within our Vincentian Family, unity, simplicity, humility, and the fire of love that
burned in St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac.
Strengthen us, so that, faithful to the practice of these virtues, we may contemplate you and serve
you in the person of the poor, and may one day be united with you and them In your kingdom.
Amen.
St. Vincent de Paul… Pray for us!
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
