B. Your checking account balance as a measure of the amount of money you
have in that account.
C. The order in which you were eliminated in a spelling bee as a measure of
your spelling ability.
D. Your score on the first statistics test as a measure of your knowledge of
statistics.
E. Your score on an individual intelligence test as a measure of your
intelligence.
F. The distance around your forehead measured with a tape measure as a
measure of your intelligence.
G. A response to the statement "Abortion is a woman's right" where "Strongly
Disagree" = 1, "Disagree" = 2, "No Opinion" = 3, "Agree" = 4, and "Strongly
Agree" = 5, as a measure of attitude toward abortion.
H. Months of the year Meskerm, Tikimit…
I. Socioeconomic status of a family when classified as low, middle and upper
classes.
J. Blood type of individuals, A, B, AB and O.
K. Regions numbers of Ethiopia (1, 2, 3 etc.)
L. The number of students in a college;
M. The net wages of a group of workers;
N. The height of the men in the same town
2. The following data represents the number of books read by a group of 10
students in a semester:
Books Read: 3, 5, 7, 8, 6, 4, 3, 9, 5, 7
a) Calculate the mean, median, and mode of the data.
b) Calculate the range and standard deviation.
c) Comment on the distribution of the data based on your results.
3. discus the following question
a) A die is rolled once. What is the probability of rolling a number greater than4?
b) A deck of cards contains 52 cards. What is the probability of drawing a King
or a Queen?
c) A survey found that 60% of students prefer online learning. If a student is
chosen at random, what is the probability that they do not prefer online learning?
4. A student flips a fair coin 100 times and records 60 heads and 40 tails.
a) What is the empirical probability of landing heads?
b) What is the empirical probability of landing tails?
5. A researcher is testing whether a new teaching method improves student
performance. The test scores of 15 students before using the new method are
compared to their test scores after using the new method. The data is as follows:
Before: 60, 65, 70, 72, 68, 64, 61, 67, 66, 62, 60, 63, 69, 71, 75
After: 75, 80, 85, 78, 82, 79, 81, 86, 83, 80, 77, 82, 84, 89, 90
a) State the null and alternative hypotheses.
b) Perform a paired t-test to determine whether the new teaching method
significantly improved scores. Use a 5% significance level.
c) Interpret the result of your hypothesis test.
6. The following data shows the annual income (in thousands) of 8 individuals
from a small community:
Income (Thousands): 28, 32, 35, 40, 36, 42, 33, 38
a) Calculate the mean, median, and standard deviation of the data.
b) Explain what these statistics tell you about the income distribution in this
community.
c) If a new individual in the community has an income of 45 thousand, how does
their income compare to the rest?
7. A study was conducted to examine the relationship between the number of
hours studied and the exam score achieved. The following data was collected:
Hours Studied: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10
Exam Score: 50, 60, 70, 80, 90
a) Calculate the Pearson correlation coefficient between hours studied and exam
score.
b) Perform a linear regression analysis to find the equation of the line of best fit.
c) Using your regression equation, predict the exam score for a student who
studied for 7 hours.
8. Write a brief essay (200-300 words) discussing the importance of statistics in
the field you are studying. How can statistical tools and analysis help in decision-
making and problem-solving in your field? Include examples of how you might
use statistics in real-life situations.

median is 8.5. If the
coefficient of variation is 20%, find the Pearsonian coefficient of skewness
and the probable mode of the distribution.

distribution?
c. If a constant k was added on each observation, what will be the new
Pearsonian coefficient of skewness? Show your steps. What do you conclude
from this?
