V. Engineer will check the completed rebar installation for compliance with the design
drawings and quality standards.
W. Any discrepancies will be documented and rectified before final approval is given for
the concrete pour.
Ensure the steel grade and size comply with the specifications.
D. The kicker is prepared by chipping to create a rough surface that will ensure a good
bond between the base slab and the retaining wall.
E. Ensure lifting and transportation of rebar is done safely. Rebar should be stored on
elevated platforms to avoid contact with moisture or soil.
F. Maintain a clean working area to avoid trips and falls.
G. Adequate support and bracing should be provided before working in elevated areas.
H. Temporary access scaffolding will be erected for installation of rebar for people working
at height.
M. Shear key will be kept in the retaining wall wherever we have construction joints. And
the location of CJ as mentioned depends upon site situation.
N. Installation of internal and external water stopper will be carried out in region of CJ.
O. Apply form oil or release agent evenly on the internal faces of the shuttering panels to
ensure smooth removal after concrete curing. Ensure that the release agent does not
come into contact with the reinforcement.
P. Inspector from formwork supplier (ACROW) shall produce ready to cast certificate after
cross-checking all the installation is as per approved drawing
Q. Final Pre-Pour Check: Inspect the formwork to ensure it meets the design requirements.
Check the dimensions, alignment, verticality, and tightness of joints. Verify that tie rods,
clamps, and braces are properly installed and secured.
R. Obtain approval from the supervising engineer before proceeding with the concrete
pour.
perform a slump test (as per ASTM C143 or IS 1199) to check the workability of the
concrete before pouring.
F. Cast test cubes or cylinders from each batch of concrete to verify the compressive
strength later. The concrete must meet the project specified strength.
G. Pour concrete in horizontal layers, typically 300-500 mm thick, depending on the height
of the wall and the formwork capacity.
H. Avoid pouring too quickly, as this can cause segregation or excessive pressure on the
formwork. Maintain continuous pouring to avoid cold joint.
I. Use internal poker vibrators to compact the concrete, ensuring that there are no voids
or honeycombing.
J. Insert the vibrator at regular intervals (about 450-600 mm) and withdraw slowly to avoid
leaving air pockets.
K. Ensure overlapping between consecutive vibrator insertions for uniform compaction.
Avoid over-vibration, as this can lead to segregation of aggregates.
L. After concreting, use trowels and straight edges to level and smooth the top surface of
the concrete.
M. In case of visible surfaces of the retaining wall (exposed concrete), apply surface
finishing techniques like floating or trowelling for a smooth appearance.
N. Once the concrete has set, cover the exposed surfaces with wet hessian cloth or plastic
sheets to prevent evaporation.
O. Start curing as soon as the concrete is firm enough to withstand water spraying (usually
within 6-12 hours after pouring).
P. Use proper hoisting and lifting techniques for transporting heavy formwork components
or concrete pipes.
Q. Provide adequate lighting for night concreting works, and ensure fall protection is in
place around elevated areas.
R. Remove the formwork after the concrete has gained sufficient strength.
S. Start by loosening the side forms carefully, ensuring that no damage is caused to the
freshly poured concrete.
T. Inspect the retaining wall for any visible defects such as cracks, honeycombing, or
surface blemishes.
U. Repair minor defects immediately using cementitious repair mortar.
V. Major defects, if found, should be brought to the attention of the engineer for
rectification.
W. Ensure cube tests are performed at 7 and 28 days to verify that the concrete meets the
required strength.
X. Verify that the final dimensions of the retaining wall align with the project drawings.
Y. Ensure that the concrete surface finish meets the project's quality standards.

METHOD STATEMENT FOR UNDERPASS CONSTRUCTION WORKS
T. Confirm the concrete mix design and slump are as per the project specification.
U. Pour concrete into the formwork in layers to avoid cold joints, ensuring that concrete is
evenly distributed throughout the form.
V. Use mechanical vibrators to compact the concrete and remove air pockets.
W. Ensure that vibrators are used carefully to avoid disturbing the formwork or reinforcement.
Continue pouring until the entire head wall is cast without interruption to avoid cold joints.
X. After the initial setting of concrete, place hessian cloth on top of the head wall which is
soaked and cover it with polyethylene.
Y. After 24 hours, carefully remove the formwork without damaging the concrete surface.
Inspect the concrete surface for any defects or honeycombing and address issues as
necessary.
Z. Begin the curing process immediately after de-shuttering, ensuring the concrete is kept
moist.
AA. Use water curing by covering the concrete with wet hessian or a plastic sheet, or apply a
curing compound. Continue curing for a minimum of 7-14 days depending on weather
conditions and project specifications.
BB. Conduct concrete cube tests as required (typically at 7 and 28 days) to ensure the
concrete meets the specified strength.
J. Ensure the bedding layer is evenly distributed and compacted to create a stable and
level base for the pipe.
K. Lay the 160mm perforated uPVC pipes on top of the fine aggregate bedding, ensuring
that the slots are positioned correctly (usually facing downward or sideways for better
drainage).
L. Maintain the proper slope for the drainage system on design requirements.
M. Connect the pipes as per the project specifications using appropriate fittings such as
couplings, elbows, or T-joints, ensuring a tight and secure connection.
N. Check the alignment and slope of the pipes using levelling instruments.
O. Spread fine aggregates around and above the perforated uPVC pipes. Ensure the layer is
about 100mm thick or as specified, providing even coverage over the pipes.
P. Compact the fine aggregate layer lightly to ensure it provides adequate support without
damaging the pipes.
Q. Once after making sure of the fine aggregates are in position, commencement of layer-
by-layer backfilling starts.
R. Add backfill material in layers (approximately 200mm thick), compacting each layer
thoroughly.
S. Ensure that each layer is well-compacted before adding the next layer to avoid
settlement over time.
T. After reaching a certain backfill height where it provides adequate support, add a
300mm thick layer of filter material on top of the fine aggregates where the pipe is
embedded. Geo-textile acts as the separation between both these materials.
U. Extend the geotextile fabric over the backfilled layers to ensure filtration and separation.
V. Add another layer of pervious backfilling material over the geotextile extension, filling the
area up to the final ground level.
W. Compact the backfilling material in layers as before, ensuring uniform compaction.
X. Ensure that the final surface is level with the surrounding ground and properly graded.
Y. This sequence of works will carry out whole around the underpass and retaining wall
areas.
Z. Pervious backfilling material approved through ADM application number: 202304720774.
AA. Perforate pipe material approved through ADM application number: 202401803455
