evenly distributed throughout the form.
V. Use mechanical vibrators to compact the concrete and remove air pockets.
W. Ensure that vibrators are used carefully to avoid disturbing the formwork or reinforcement.
Continue pouring until the entire head wall is cast without interruption to avoid cold joints.
X. After the initial setting of concrete, place hessian cloth on top of the head wall which is
soaked and cover it with polyethylene.
Y. After 24 hours, carefully remove the formwork without damaging the concrete surface.
Inspect the concrete surface for any defects or honeycombing and address issues as
necessary.
Z. Begin the curing process immediately after de-shuttering, ensuring the concrete is kept
moist.
AA. Use water curing by covering the concrete with wet hessian or a plastic sheet, or apply a
curing compound. Continue curing for a minimum of 7-14 days depending on weather
conditions and project specifications.

concrete meets the specified strength.

8.8 Drainage system installation:

A. Make sure all the shop drawings are approved related to the drainage works
B. Make sure all materials have been approved and the materials has been verified through
material inspections.
C. Start with placing of the geotextile fabric at the formation layer. Ensure the fabric extends
beyond the edges of the fine aggregate to prevent soil contamination from surrounding
areas.
D. Overlap the geotextile sheets by at least 300mm if multiple sheets are used to prevent
gaps.
E. Ensure the geotextile is laid smoothly, without folds or creases, to allow for proper
drainage and filtration.
F. Geo-textile will be extended towards the retaining wall so that later to commence with
backfilling works. This geo-textile acts as the separation layer between backfilling and
drainage system.
G. Determine the alignment and slope of the pipe as per the project design. Ensure the
trench slope is suitable for gravity drainage.
H. Place a bedding layer of fine aggregates over the geo-textile to provide support and
cushioning for the uPVC pipes of 160mm dia.
I. Spread a layer of fine aggregates at the bottom of the geo-textile. The thickness of the
bedding layer should typically be around 100mm or as specified in the project design.

8.9 Surface Finishes:

A. This sequence of works will carry out whole around the underpass and retaining wall
areas.
B. The first step involves the proper surface preparation and finishing of freshly casted
concrete surfaces to ensure smoothness and durability.
C. For hardened concrete surfaces that require additional finishing, use a concrete grinder
to smooth out any rough areas, remove laitance, or level high spots.
D. After finishing, clean the surface thoroughly using wire brushes, water jets, or air blowers to
remove any debris, dust, or loose particles.
E. Ensure the surface is free of contaminants such as oil, grease, and dirt that can affect the
bonding of further treatments.
F. The prepared surface should be inspected by the Engineer to ensure compliance with
the required standards before applying sealants or paint.
G. The Engineer will inspect the surface visually for any cracks, honeycombing, or
imperfections. Ensure there are no visible laitance, rough patches, or debris on the
surface. Once the Engineer is satisfied with the condition of the surface, they will approve
the surface for further works such as sealant application and painting.
H. Apply flexible sealants at movement joints to allow for thermal expansion and
contraction, preventing cracking and water ingress.
I. Clean the joint thoroughly to remove dust, debris, or contaminants using wire brushes or
compressed air. Ensure the joint is dry and free from oil, grease, or moisture.
