Title SOP FOR TDBFP to MDBFP CHANGEOVER
TDBFP to MDBFP Changeover Procedure:
Risk Associated with Changeover of BFP
Boiler MFT on Drum level very High (>250 mm) or very Low (<-375 mm) 10 sec delay.
Risk of Economizer tube starvation
Risk of Boiler Tube Starvation(In the event of BCW tripping)
Initial conditions:
Unit is in synchronized condition.
Both TDBFP A and B are in service.
MDBFP kept in standby and scoop in auto.(tracking feed water master)
Feed water control loop in Auto(drum level 3 element control)
Changeover Procedure:
Prior to changeover inform UCE/SCE.
Ensure C&I engineer must available in engineering room and inform him.
Inform the Field Operator to be present near MDBFP and re-check the local line up.
Check Station Bus voltage > 10.80 KV.
Now Visit to MDBFP DCS page and Remove MDBFP scoop from Auto and bring it to
minimum position (to 14%) (Refer MDBFP snapshot point-1)
Ensure all start permissive for MDBFP is available. (Refer MDBFP snapshot point-2)
Don’t remove MDBFP from standby.
Start MDBFP after checking all its permissive (Refer MDBFP snapshot 3)
Check all Parameters are healthy and starting current normalised.
(Refer to MDBFP parameters DCS Mimic)
Check for any oil leakage or water leakage in local.(From Local Operator)
Observe that Casing top and bottom temp. And Suction and discharge temperature are
in increasing trend.( (Refer to MDBFP parameters DCS Mimic –No.4)
If suction and discharge temperature difference is > 10 Deg C then ask C&I Engineer to
enable permissive for RC closing.(As RC valve protection Open in Suction and discharge
temperature difference at > 10 degC it won’t allow to close RC valve)
Gradually increase the MDBFP scoop and observe the Discharge pressure/flow is
increasing. (Refer Feed water cycle snapshot point no.5)

Title SOP FOR TDBFP to MDBFP CHANGEOVER
Keep increasing the scoop position till discharge pressure /flow are equalised with the
pressure and flow of previously running BFP(TDBFP A and B)( Observe that when the
flow starts contributing i.e On further increasing of scoop total feed water flow will start
increasing) (Refer Feed water cycle snapshot point no.6)
Maintain MDBFP speed near to TDBFP in service(200 to 250 RPM difference in speed of
MDBFP and TDBFP is the safe limit) (Refer Feed water cycle snapshot point no.7)
Remove the TDBFP which is to be kept in service from remote and put it in local. No-8
Keep the drum level control in Auto(master must be in Auto ) No-9
The TDBFP which is kept in auto will reduce its speed to maintain drum level on
increasing of MDBFP scoop. (Refer Feed water cycle snapshot point no.10)
When the speed of TDBFP (kept in auto) reduces significantly, first put MDBFP scoop in
auto and remove TDBFP from remote.
As Recirculation flow of BFP is 30% i.e TPH 370 TPH hence Recirculation valve
changeover is safe when MDBFP suction flow is > 450 TPH. (This will ensure MDBFP flow
contribution)
Open the recirculation valve of TDBFP to be taken out and Close the RC of MDBFP
simultaneously.( Point No. 11 to open RC popup)
Then Reduce the TDBFP (to be taken out) speed further and observe that MDBFP scoop
increasing to maintain drum level.(From vertical bar in DCS)
Then put Other TDBFP (To be kept in service) in auto and keep a close watch on feed
water master i.e no major deviation (Feed water snapshot No-9.)
Further reduce the speed of the TDBFP (to be taken out) and unload it.
Reduce the speed up to 2500 RPM then trip it from TDBFP protection page (Please
ensure the Right popup before initiating tripping of TDBFP to avoid emergency)
