You are on page 1/ 1

1.

Open Inkscape
2. Click on file – import the image you want to convert when a new box
pops up, just click ok
3. Make sure the image fits into the rectangle on your screen. If it does not,
hold down the control (Ctrl on lower left hand side of keyboard) and grab
the image by the lower right arrow and resize it to fit into the box.
4. Go to Path at the top of Inkscape and trace bitmap.
5. Look over to the right, in the large box for Trace Bitmap. Look below
and make sure the circle beside colors has a black dot in it.
6. Look below colors and make sure there is NOT a checkmark beside
Smooth and NOT beside Stack Scans.
7. Make sure the square beside Remove background has a checkmark in the
box.
8. Look over to the right and click on Live preview. A picture of your
image will pop up in that box.
9. Just to the left of the image it says scans and has a number with an arrow
beside it. Click on the arrow to increase or lower the number of scans.
Change the number of scans to the lowest number you can and have the
image in the live preview look ok.
10.Once you have done that click OK and it places a new image on top of
the original image in the rectangle. Drag the new image OUT of the
rectangle and delete the original image that is still inside the rectangle.
11.Click on Object – ungroup
12.Click on Layer - lock/unlock current layer
13.Again Click on Layer – lock-unlock current layer (this is the second time
you will have done this step) Once you have done this twice, when you
click on your image, you should be able to pull one layer off of the
others, one at a time.
14.Move each layer off of the others, then look at each layer up close. To do
this simply click on one portion of the design so that it has the box
around it, then, use the + key on your keyboard to zoom is as closely as
you want to zoom and then use the – sign to zoom back out.
15.Once you erase any excess blotches from all of your layers, place each
layer back into the rectangle.
16.Go to file and click save as and then name your file and select where you
want to save it.
You have now created an svg file

Upload the svg file you created into Design Space. You will not have to
clean this up (if you erased well in Inkscape) It is ready to be used.
