Fulbright Foreign Student Program Application

Guidelines
Please read these guidelines carefully and refer to it frequently as you fill out your application

Do not refer to the online instructions since it is a generic form for all countries. Fulbright
Uzbekistan has specific requirements, so please follow our guidelines below. A complete application
includes:  your online application form, including study/research objectives and personal
statement;  resume or curriculum vitae;
 scanned copies (and English translations) of your academic transcripts and diplomas;
 scanned copy of official confirmation (spravka) from university administration certifying your
coming graduation (ONLY if graduating this year)
 three reference letters from university professors or employers;
 IF available, scanned copies of TOEFL/IELTS and GRE/GMAT score reports (test scores are
NOT required at the time of application);
 scanned copy of passport bio-data page
Please note that all these documents should be uploaded into the application. Only nominated candidates
will be requested to submit „official‟ copies of diplomas and academic transcripts from all
postsecondary schools attended, accompanied by certified English translations. The Embassy will NOT
be accepting hard copy applications– please apply through the online system only.
Remember the application deadline: May 20, 2018. All components of the application must be
submitted before this date, including recommendation letters. We recommend that you start contacting
your recommenders as soon as you start your online application.
Fulbright Foreign Student Program applications must be completed online at:
https://iie.embark.com/apply/ffsp

Click Register to start a new application. Add email ID, password, first and last name. Once your
account has been created, you may proceed to login and complete your application.

Some helpful tips:

can‟t change your User ID, you can change your password by clicking Forgot Your Password?
at the application log in page.
• Avoid using all capital letters or using all lower case for names, addresses, etc. Use upper and
lower case, e.g. Ron Smith.
• You are not required to complete this application in one session. You can re-enter at any time and
edit your application before you submit it. However, please remember that 60 minutes of
inactivity will automatically log you out. You will have to log in again to resume your
application.
• Responses to questions on the application must adhere to established character limits.
• Do not use any Cyrillic letters on any portion of the application as these letters cannot be
processed in the Fulbright online system and will be unreadable. All forms in this application are
to be completed in English.

grant. However, if you plan to bring your dependents, complete the part on dependents. Please be aware
that the Foreign Fulbright Student program does not provide for dependents, and should they
accompany you, you will be responsible for providing travel, adequate insurance, and support for them.

STEP 8: UNIVERSITY PREFERENCE

It is NOT an expectation that you will have U.S. university preferences. However, if you do, please
complete this part as fully as possible. Once you have submitted your application for a Fulbright
competition, do not apply directly to U.S. schools unless you plan to fund your own studies.
STEP 9: ESSAYS AND RESUME/CURRICULUM VITAE
You will upload files in this section.
• Upload your files in Word or PDF format.
• It is highly you use the following formatting: Times New Roman Font in size 12; Use ¾ inch (or
2 cm) margins on the left, right and bottom sides; Apply single spacing.
• On the essays, it is recommended that you try to limit your text to fifty lines or two pages.
• Always have someone proofread your essays for any language or grammatical mistakes before
including them in your Fulbright application.

Study/Research Objective: The study/research objective description is an essential and highly

important part of your application. You should take great care to write a clear and very detailed
description of the program you want to pursue. Clearly identify the area(s) within your field of study in
which you want to specialize or concentrate. If there is specific research/internship that you want to
accomplish, please describe.
If you are selected as a finalist, this essay will be forwarded to universities, so it is important to present
your ideas in an organized way. If you write an incomplete or overly brief statement, you may not be
placed at a university which best suits your academic needs and goals. As more than one university will
read this application, you should not mention a specific institution in this section.

Personal Statement: This is a narrative statement to introduce who you are and why you are a suitable
candidate for the Fulbright Program. You should describe yourself as an individual outlining your
personal history, influences on your intellectual development, the educational and cultural opportunities
to which you have been exposed, and the ways in which these experiences have affected you. Also
include your special interests and abilities, career plans and life goals etc. It should not be a record of
facts already listed on the application or an elaboration of your statement of proposed study.

Resume/Curriculum Vitae: Make sure the information in your CV/Resume is consistent with your
application. Your Resume/Curriculum Vitae should not exceed two pages.

STEP 10: TRANSCRIPTS AND ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS

You will upload files in this section.
Transcript: Although the online system only indicates transcript (grade sheet), Fulbright Uzbekistan
office requires that you upload both diploma and transcript of each higher educational institution you‟ve
attended.
• If your diploma and/or transcripts were issued in English or bilingual, you just need to upload the
scanned copies of the original documents.

translations of the documents. You do NOT have to provide certified/notarized translations at
this point, just make sure that it‟s accurate and word for word.

International/English language department).

submitted along with the rest of your application materials to the universities. However, please do NOT
submit any writing samples at this point, wait until the Fulbright office specifically asks you to do so.

Test scores: Test scores are NOT required at this point, but if you have recently taken TOEFL, IELTS,

your proposed field of study. Letters of reference should not be written by persons related to you either
by blood or marriage or by personal friends.

website and complete their recommendation.
This process will happen as soon as you provide their contact information and click on Invite Recomme
nders.
You will receive an email notification after the referee submits the online recommendation letter.

ONLY if the above option is not available:

Your recommenders can download the Letter of Reference Form from here:

• Recommenders must complete all parts of the recommendation letters.
• Your recommenders can work on their letters of recommendations while you are working on
your application. These are the two independent processes. You don‟t need to wait until your
application is complete to register recommenders.
• We recommend that you register your recommenders as soon as you start your application.
• Fulbright office reserves all rights to verify the information provided in the recommendation
letters, including contacting the recommenders directly.
• It is the responsibility of the applicant to register their referees online or send them Letter of

than the application deadline.
