Maxwell's laws generally refer to Maxwell's equations, which describe how electric and magnetic
fields interact and propagate. There are four fundamental equations:
Gauss's Law
• It states that the electric flux through a closed surface is proportional to
the charge enclosed within that surface. Mathematically:
∇⋅E=ρ/ϵ0
Gauss's Law for Magnetism
• It states that there are no magnetic monopoles; the total magnetic flux
through a closed surface is zero.
o ∇⋅B=0
Faraday's Law of Induction
• It describes how a changing magnetic field generates an electric field.
o ∇×E=−∂B/∂t
Ampère-Maxwell Law
• It relates magnetic fields to the electric current and the changing electric
field.
o ∇×B=μ0J+μ0ϵ0(∂E/∂t)
Together, these equations form the foundation of classical electromagnetism, describing how
electric and magnetic fields are generated and altered by each other and by charges and
currents
