Explain why ideas about the universe have changed over the years( use Galileo and

Albert Einstein as examples)

As the world has advanced in evolution.
Explain Alfred Wegner’s theory of continental drift, the evidence he used to support it,
and why it was not accepted during his lifetime.
Alfred Wegner was a meteorologist. He went on many air balloon flights and began to see the
world from up high. He noticed how South America fit perfectly into Africa on the map.
He did more research and he learned that across the continents, mountain ranges, geological
matches, animal species, fossils, and plant life were similar. Alfred Wegner tried to spread the
word about his discovery, but many people shut the idea down based on the fact that he was a
meteorologist and not a geologist.
Explain the Theory of plate tectonics and the evidence used to support this theory
( ridges/trenches, magnetic reversals, etc.)

Explain how the Sun’s energy creates the climate and weather on Earth.

List and describe five factors that affect the weather and the tools used to measure these
factors. Explain the relationship between temperature and pressure as well.

Describe how ocean convection currents work, what key items are provided to life by
these climates, and the physical characteristics of the ocean.

Explain the Earth’s water cycle and how heat from the sun plays a key role in the water.

Explain what the “essential elements of life” are and how each of these six elements is
used by living things.

Compare and contrast photosynthesis with chemosynthesis, and explain how these
biological processes make life possible on Earth.
