Origin and Development
Divine origin
Unity of GOD/ There is only one God.
Faith in Allah, complete submission to God
Important source of Muslim Law is Quran
It is believed that the God communicated through the
angel Gabriel who visited Muhammad, messenger of
the GOD in the year 610 CE (when he became religious
leader)
Prophet Muhammed was born approximately 570 CE in
the Arabian city of Mecca
From 610 CE to 632 CE, Muhammad was in the
process of receiving revelation (which would be
compiled in the Quran) and establishing an actual
religious empire in Arabia
Quran is the Holy book containing wordings of Allah
Quran is a compilation of 114 suras (chapters)
containing a total of 6,236 ayat (verses)
Till Prophet Muhammad’s death (632 CE), muslim
religion was not divided in two sects i.e. Sunni and
Shia.
The Quran provides general guidelines on matters of
law and religion.
It says how to behave while living in the society, i.e.
Moral, political, social duties of an individual.
Quran and Sunna are considered as important sources
of muslim law.
Application of Muslim Law
A person who is muslim by birth- both parents are
muslim
A person whose one of the parents is muslim (subject
to hindu law)
Converts to muslim
