Project Title: Smart Fire Detection Using IoT (Internet of Things)

Category: Technology (Arduino, Raspberry Pi )

This project uses IoT platform to monitor fire conditions. The project application can be
useful at any places such as homes, offices, vehicles wherever there are chances of fire
accidents. We are here focusing the application to be used in vehicles. In this project, flame
sensor, temperature sensor is used. The sensor data is processed using a controller which
has built in wi-fi communication feature so that it can connect to any available access point
for connectivity with the internet.

The sensor data is sent to Adafruit IoT platform. User can monitor real time data from
anywhere in the world. We are also using GPS to know the exact location of the vehicle for
its tracking. When the system detects fire and temperature sensor reading exceeds the
specific threshold, system sends SMS immediately to an authorized user. This information
can be provided to fire and rescue department.

We are also using usb camera with raspberry pi board which captures pictures in case of fire
accidents and send attachements through email to user. The pictures can be analyzed
properly to confirm the fire accident.

Project uses open source hardware platforms such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi. It uses
Embedded CPP, Python coding. IoT is a new technology which has recently revolutionised
the entire world. Project has been tested successfully.

The project work has been completed under the guidance of a mentor at Innovation Hub,
Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum , Bangalore.
