Activity - 01 Planning and Preparing Guidance Programme for
school. Aim- To prepare and plan guidance programmes for schoolss at different
levels. Objectives- Planning and preparing a guidance program at the school
level involves clear objectives to ensure that the program effectively serves the
needs of students. A few objectives for planning and preparing a school guidance
program: To provide academic guidance and support to help students achieve their
educational goals. To assist students in selecting appropriate courses, setting
academic milestones, and addressing learning challenges. To help students explore
a wide range of career opinions and make informed decisions about their future. To
offer resources and guidance for understanding the job market, career trends, and
educational pathways. To foster the personal development of students, including
their social and emotional well-being. To provide counselling and support for
addressing personal issues, stress, anxiety, and mental health concerns. To
assist students in selecting short-term and long-term goals for academic and career
success. To help students create plans and strategies to reach their goals. To
guide students through the college application process, including college
selection, standardized testing, and application preparation. To provide
information on scholarships, financial aid, and other resources for post-secondary
education. To equip students with essential life skills such as problem-solving,
management, and effective decision-making. To promote responsibility and ethical
behaviour among students. To involve parents and the community in the guidance
program to create a supportive network for students. To facilitate workshops,
events, and informational sessions for parents on education and career topics.
These objectives serve as a foundation for developing a comprehensive and effective
school guidance program that addresses the diverse needs of students and empowers
them to achieve academic success and personal growth. INTRODUCTION- The
guidance refers to advice or information provided by a person of experience, to
solve a problem or improve something. The guidance refers to the process of helping
individuals to discover and develop their potential. The need for guidance is
something that cannot be ignored by anyone. Furthermore, guidance helps in the
development of educational, vocational, and psychological skills in an individual.
Most noteworthy, guidance would help an individual to achieve an op mal level of
happiness and peace in life. Moreover, an individual who receives proper guidance
would surely contribute significantly to society. The concept of guidance is quite
democratic. This is because; a properly guided individual would be able to shape
his destiny. Guidance ensures that each individual’s choices must serve the
interests of society as well as the interests of the individual. Principles of
Guidance The principles of guidance certainly form the basis of the need for
guidance. Furthermore, principles of guidance are important principles without
which guidance cannot take place. Below are the principles of guidance:
Principles of all-round development- Guidance must take into account the all-round
development of the person. Furthermore, guidance must ensure this desirable
adjustment in any specific area of the individual’s personality. Principle of
human uniqueness- Certainly no two individuals are alike. Furthermore, individuals
differ in mental, social, physical, and emotional development. Moreover, guidance
must recognise these important differences and guide individuals according to their
specific needs. Principle of holistic development- This principle states that
guidance must take place in the context of total personality development. Moreover,
a child grows as a whole. Also, if one aspect of personality is in focus, then the
other areas of development must be kept in mind. Most noteworthy, these other areas
of development indirectly influence the personality. Principle of cooperation-
This principle states that there cannot be any force on any individual regarding
guidance. Moreover, the cooperation and consent of the individual is a pre-
requisite for providing guidance. Principle of Community- The principle says that
guidance must take place as a continuous process for an individual. Also, this
guidance must take place in different stages of the individual’s life. Principle
of extension- In this principle, there should not be a limitation of guidance to a
few individuals. Most noteworthy, the extension of guidance must be to all
individuals of all ages. Principle of adjustment- It is certainly true that
guidance influences every aspect of an individual’s life. However, guidance is
chiefly concerned with a person’s mental or physical health. Furthermore, this
adjustment takes place at school, home, society, and vocation. Need for Guidance:
Guidance certainly has an enormous need in every individual’s life. Below are some
factors that highlight the need for guidance: Different stages of development-
The division of an individual’s life can take place into various stages. These
stages are infant, childhood, pre-adolescent, adolescence and manhood. So, an
individual needs guidance in every stage of life. Maximum guidance is required
during the adolescence stage. Differences among persons- Psychology informs us
that no individuals are alike. Furthermore, no two individuals get similar
opportunities in life. Therefore, every individual requires guidance, to find out
the most suitable profession for him. Career Maturity- Guidance is certainly
essential for the development of a positive work attitude. Furthermore, guidance
would help build suitable habits and values towards one’s work or profession. This
is because; guidance increases the awareness of one’s world of work. Also, an
individual can plan and prepare for his work or profession efficiently due to
guidance. Educational growth- Guidance certainly helps in the development of
educational skills and abilities. Above all, these skills would facilitate learning
and achievement. • Types of Guidance – Educational, Vocational, and Personal
Guidance are mainly divided into 3 types. These 3 types of guidance are the main
tools that guide a teacher or student in its working. Besides, in this topic, we
are going to discuss the type of guidance that is most important. Educational
Guidance refers to the guidance that a child or students need during his school
life. Also, it helps them to solve the problems that they face in school. In
addition, it gives all the required details that children need related to the
school they find most suitable. Most noteworthy, education is the process that
guides and directs children for her/his proper development. Every aspect of school
education is strongly related to educational guidance. Moreover, it includes the
aim, objectives, discipline, syllabus, the role of teachers, methods of teaching,
and co-curricular activity. In addition, these guidelines help in the adjustment
of the course of study according to the ability and skill of the student. This
process helps a student to make wise choices in relation to his education life
ahead. Most noteworthy, this process assists a person to plan her/his education
plan and carry it forward without any problem. Education guidance concerns every
related aspect of student education. Also, it provides assistance to students to
choose the school, course, study habits, and several others. Besides, it helps in
the growth and development of children. Vocational Guidance It refers to that
type of guidance in which ordinary information is provided regarding choosing the
occupation. Also, it prepares them for the occupation and helps them enter and
progress. Besides, it is also known as vocational development. Most noteworthy, in
modern education its perspective is much wider. This type of guidance helps a
person to know her/his strengths and weaknesses. Moreover, it helps them to choose
a vocation to be adjusted to every situation. In other words, vocational guidance
helps a person choose his career and other aspects related to it. It is an
assistance that helps students and children to know the world of vocation by
getting into the school. Most noteworthy, it is an early exposure to students about
the variety of job choices they would have later in life. It is a motivation for
hard work in school or college studies. Vocational Guidance helps children to know
what they are capable of and what they can become in life. And this ultimately
depends on what they are capable of doing in their school life. In addition, they
need to be on the right track to prepare them for life. In short, we can say that
it is a universally accepted process that assists an individual to know
her/himself. Personal Guidance refers to that type of guidance where a person or
individual overcomes their problem on their own. Also, it is the assistance that is
provided to an individual to solve their social, mental, moral, health, and ethical
problems. Besides, it helps in solving those problems, which we cannot solve with
just vocational and educational guidance. Personal assistance is of two types
written and oral. They help us make adjustments in our lives. Moreover, it is the
guidance that lets us know what we are now and what we can become later in life.
Besides, it helps children and students to help them and look at them from the
right point of view. In the case of personal guidance, we observe that it is not
an easy task. And the total development of an individual’s personality depends on
the development of personal habits and attitudes. That’s why most individuals face
this problem in life. ROLE OF A COUNSELOR- Counselors are often available
from kindergarten through grade 12 and may work on helping students grow their
self-understanding and acceptance of themselves. School counsellors assess students
individually, catering to each person's specific needs. This personalized
assessment may allow students to rely on a counsellor to assist with their
academics, teacher relationships, personal concerns, career goals, and social life
issues (such as bullying). Counsellors often conduct one-on-one or group sessions,
presentations, and workshops to support students. Overall, the goal of a school
counsellor is to ensure that every student reaches their potential academically,
emotionally, and socially. A counselor can help develop coping, organizational, and
communication skills to give students the tools to gain a sense of self-acceptance.
Some professionally trained counsellors can also provide students with
psychological counselling. Grade Level Differences - Varying Degrees of
Counseling Counselors' responsibilities may differ depending on what branch of
education they are involved in. With different ages and levels of development in
schools, the problems students face may change and evolve. Elementary Schools
At the elementary level, one counsellor may be assigned to the school. These
counsellors work with students ranging from kindergarten to grade six. Elementary
counsellors might manage behavioural concerns, bullying, and family life. They
might pay attention to students experiencing social difficulties, mental health
symptoms, or signs of at-home conflicts. Furthermore, elementary school counsellors
can help students overcome bullying, gossip, and disagreements with teachers and
friends. A counsellor may take on similar student issues at the middle school
level. This group often includes students from grades six to eight. The onset
of puberty during this stage of development may bring new concerns, including
relationship issues, body image, sexual troubles, self-harm, and friend
disagreements. Students may start to show symptoms of mental health conditions at
this age, and the counsellor may offer resources and suggestions depending on the
needs of the moment. High School Counseling may be based on academics and plans
for grades nine through twelve. Counsellors aid students in making choices
regarding their future careers and college education, including sharing information
on financial aid. While school counsellors may address social and emotional issues,
often, the main focus is to prepare students for their life beyond school.
University Some college and university campuses offer school counselling as well.
A campus may have multiple counsellors to accommodate the number of students.
Students might talk to counsellors about which classes to take for graduation,
career, and scholarship concerns at this level. They may also seek financial or
childcare advice. With students over 18, parents may not be involved. The Impact
of a Guidance Program A well-executed Guidance Program has the potential to shape
lives positively. It instils coincidence, fosters resilience, and equips
individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to make informed decisions.
Moreover, it contributes to the development of a well-rounded, empowered, and self-
aware citizenry ready to tackle the challenges and opportunities of the future. In
this era of limitless possibilities and continuous change, the Guidance Program
serves as a guiding light, illuminating the path toward personal and professional
success. It is a testament to the belief that every individual has the potential to
achieve greatness with the right guidance, support, and a commitment to lifelong
learning and development. Guidance Program Report
