HOW IS

PLASTIC
PERCEIVED AT SCHOOL

INTRODUCTION PLASTIC IS ONE OF THE MOST USED MATERIALS IN

MODERN SOCIETY DUE TO ITS VERSATILITY, LOW COST AND DURABILITY.
HOWEVER, ITS ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT HAS GENERATED CONCERN AT A
GLOBAL LEVEL, ESPECIALLY IN EDUCATIONAL CONTEXTS, WHERE IT SEEKS
TO FORM AN ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS FROM AN EARLY AGE. IN CBTIS
122, THE ISSUE OF PLASTIC ACQUIRES SPECIAL RELEVANCE, SINCE
STUDENTS AND TEACHERS WITNESS BOTH ITS BENEFITS AND ITS NEGATIVE
EFFECTS ON THE ENVIRONMENT. ANALYZING HOW PLASTIC IS PERCEIVED
WITHIN THIS INSTITUTION ALLOWS US TO UNDERSTAND THE ATTITUDES,
KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICES RELATED TO ITS USE AND RECYCLING, AS
WELL AS IDENTIFY AREAS OF OPPORTUNITY TO PROMOTE A MORE
SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENT. THIS STUDY SEEKS TO EXPLORE THE
PERCEPTION OF THE CBTIS 122 SCHOOL COMMUNITY TOWARDS PLASTIC,
ITS IMPLICATIONS AND THE POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS THAT CAN BE
IMPLEMENTED WITHIN THE INSTITUTION.
1. Versatility: Plastics can be molded into various
2. Durability: Plastics are resistant to corrosion,
shapes and sizes, making them suitable for a
weather, and many chemicals, ensuring long-
wide range of applications, from packaging to
lasting performance.
construction.

BENEFITS OF PLASTIC

3. Lightweight: Compared to other materials 4. Cost-effectiveness: Plastic

like metal or glass, plastics are much lighter, production is relatively inexpensive,
reducing transportation costs and energy making it an affordable option for
consumption. manufacturers and consumers.
1. Environmental pollution: Non-
biodegradable plastic can take centuries to 2. Toxicity during production: The

environment and harming ecosystems greenhouse gas emissions and can
release harmful chemicals.

DISADVANTAGES OF
PLASTIC

entangled in them.
1. Food packaging: Plastic is widely used to preserve
food because it is lightweight and airtight; however,
improper disposal causes pollution in rivers and
oceans.

2. Water bottles: Many people choose disposable

plastic bottles as they are convenient and
affordable, but if not recycled, they can take
hundreds of years to decompose.
3. Medical equipment: In hospitals, plastic is used to
make syringes and IV bags, which improve hygiene;
nevertheless, improper disposal of these wastes
poses environmental risks.

4. Automobiles: Car manufacturers use plastic

because it reduces weight and, therefore, fuel
consumption, although the problem arises at the end
of the vehicle’s life when plastics are not recycled
properly.
Plastic has revolutionized our daily lives due to its
versatility and low cost, but its excessive use and
improper disposal are harming the environment.
It is essential to find a balance between
harnessing its benefits and minimizing its impact
by promoting recycling and seeking more
sustainable alternatives to protect the planet.
