Grammar – Present Simple
Rules
He/She/It + v1 + s He plays the piano.

We/You/They + v1 We live in Haifa.

Regular verbs: + S )(פעלים רגילים
Eat ---> eats
Drink ---> drinks
Irregular verbs )(פעלים יוצאי דופן
Verbs that end with s, ss, sh, ch, x, o, add es
Wash ---> washes

go ---> goes
Verbs that end with Y after a consonant, drop the Y and add ies
Cry ---> cries

When do we use the present simple?
We use the present simple to talk about things in general. We use it to say that something
(an action or activity) happens all the time or repeatedly, or that something is true in general
(a fact):
- I work at the Western Galilee College.
- Ronit practices yoga every day.
- Koalas eat banana leaves.
Look for words of frequency: every week, every Sunday, rarely, often, never, always,
sometimes, every two months, four times a week.
Negative sentences in the present simple
We use the helping verb do to form the negative.
Does 'steals' the S from the verb for He/She/It
Limor doesn't (does not) play football.
Forming Yes/No questions in present simple
To form a question, we use the helping verb do.
