STATEMENT PRAVEEN PALANIVEL SELVARAJ

My name is Praveen Palanivel Selvaraj and I am 20 years old from Tamil Nadu, India. I recently complete
my bachelor of Computer application (BCA) with specialization in Data science an overall CGPA of 8.20 at
SRM university in May 2024. I also did an 3month internship in cyber security at deep sphere AI. Durning
my intern time, I have learnt a lot about real life cyber security project development my roles involve
collecting and analyze data to support company decisions. For my schooling, I complete my 12 th grade at
St. joseph. Matric. Higher. Secondary. School in 2021 with an overall percentage of 76. During my school
days, I participated in a state level volleyball league and won the state level championship. This
experience taught me the importance of discipline, teamwork, dedication and leadership skills. I have
developed a several skills during my academic journey including python, SQL, power BI. In my free time I
enjoying playing volleyball and cricket. My goal is to become a chief information security officer (CISO) in
the future. In consist of family my father, he run a business in the cement industry, my mother is a high
school government, and me, as I am their only child. They have always been greatest support,
encouraging me to pursue my dreams. This is all about me and my family. Thankyou…!

I choose UK for my master’s degree for several reasons. Firstly, completing a master’s degree in the UK
takes one year to complete, it saves time and money. Student in the UK also get transport discounts,
which make commuting affordable and convenient. The UK education system focuses more on practical
learning compared to the theoretical approach in my home country. This will help me gain hands-on
knowledge and prepare me better for real-world challenges. Another important factor is the free pre-
medical service provided by the NHS for students, which ensures my health is taken care of during my
studies. The UK also gives me the chance to experience a multicultural environment. Students from
various countries come to the UK to study, and this will help me gain international exposure, exchange
new ideas, and build a global perspective. Additionally, there are many internship opportunities in the UK,
which will allow me to gain valuable work experience while studying. Lastly, the time difference between
India and the UK is just around 5 hours, so I can stay connected with my family easily. All these factors
make the UK the perfect destination for my higher studies. Firstly, the main reason why I selected UK over
India is that, I want gain an international experience and international degree which is not possible in
India. The UK degree is well recognized all over the word whereas Indian degree is not. Not only other
countries, but many reputed multinational companies in India give more preference to an international
degree over an Indian degree. Not only this the UK education system is fair more advanced and
modernized as compared India. Indian universities require a mandatory entrance exam that’s really tough
to crack, and most postgraduate courses take around 2 to 3 years. This makes the admission process
lengthy highly competitive. However, in the UK I can complete a high-quality master’s program in just one
year. Here one has to face tough competition for admission due to 3 reasons. The first reason seats are
very limited as due to high population. The second reason there is only 1 intake in year which makes it
even more difficult to secure a seat. Whereas in the UK there are multiple intakes that will not waste one
whole year. The third reason with one staff member managing a lot of students in a classroom it’s hard to
get a quality attention. But the UK provide a high standard of education and a better learning experience. I
searched this course in other English-speaking country like Australia, Canada and USA. The fees’ structure
is reasonable in UK compared to Australia for example, The University of Queens land Australia 51, 200
Australian dollar per year. Compared to other countries like Canada and USA, I choose UK for its better
climate Canada winter are much colder, which can even more difficult to focus on studies in such harsh
conditions. Canada only offers a diploma courses and certificate instead of PG degrees it takes longer and
course fees is higher. USA has a high crime rate not safe for international students also has high tuition
fees. So that after I considering all those things I have choose to study in UK

I choose university of Sunderland in London because it has internationally recognized for its high quality of
education. It’s located in London a city full of opportunities. Well, there are many opportunities for
international students in London city offer a wide range of internship or industry collaboration access to
wide network of industries, job opportunities and cultural diversity make it a prime location for our
personal and professional growth. London is one of the world’s leading tech hubs offers significant
advantages for my career in cyber security, with many leading cybersecurity companies, startups and
government organization based here. This means I’ll have access to real world experience, networking
events and internship that can help me building a successful career in cybersecurity. Additionally, its
tuition fees are lower compared to other university in UK. One of thing I really appreciate about Sunderland
university is that scholarship schemes, where the international student have the chance to receive a 3,900
pounds scholarship which rare in other in UK. Moreover, the university of Sunderland business and
management courses are ranked 8th in the UK for student satisfaction, according to the complete
university guide for 2024 and has an overall google rating of 4.1 out of 5. Apart from ranking it has friendly
modern lively academic community with a growing internationally reputation for high quality of teaching
and research. And additionally, I have seen some university like university of Wolverhampton, Bedfordshire
university including university of Sunderland. I compared the employability rate of both universities. The
university of Bedfordshire and university of Wolverhampton. Which both are low employability rate at 89%
for post graduate. However, the university of Sunderland is higher employability rate at 93% for post
graduate. And university of Wolverhampton offer an MBA cyber security program but the course fees are
high at 20,000 pounds with a course duration of 12 to 16 month. But university of Sunderland offer a 1-
year course and fees are reasonable and also provide a scholarship with worth up to 3,900 pounds for
international student. I compared the module for those university. I found that university of Sunderland
offer the specific module I was looking for international business in context, Fundamental of cybersecurity
will greatly help me in my future career in cyber security. These modules together prepare me to manage
both technical and business challenges in the field of cyber security, help me work towards my goal of
becoming a chief information security officer (CISO). The university of Sunderland the teaching staff are
professional and teaching method are constantly being developed to ensure high standard of teaching and
environment for students. I choose University of Sunderland because of its high employability rate,
outstanding student satisfaction rate, diverse module, prime location and supportive learning environment
that set it apart from other universities.

London is a popular destination for international students because of its world-class universities and the
wide range of facilities available. Most universities, including the University of Sunderland, offer excellent
support services like student counseling, career advice, and international student assistance. There are
also various clubs, societies, and sports facilities that help students feel at home and get involved in
campus life. When it comes to career opportunities, London is one of the best cities in the world. It has a
strong job market, especially in fields like business, technology, and cybersecurity. Being here means you
have access to networking events, internships, and job opportunities with some of the biggest global
companies. London is famous for its history and culture, with landmarks like the Tower of London,
Buckingham Palace, and the British Museum. The city is also known for its diverse food scene, shopping,
and entertainment options, offering something for everyone. As for transport, London has one of the best
public transport systems in the world, with the iconic London Underground (Tube), buses, and trains
connecting every part of the city. It’s very convenient for getting around, whether for studying, work, or
exploring the city. For students, transport in London is convenient and affordable with discounts available
on the Oyster card. In terms of safety, London is generally safe for international students, and universities
provide plenty of advice and resources to help us feel secure while studying here.

I got to know this through my research while planning to study in London. I visited university websites,
read student reviews, and watched videos on YouTube where international students shared their
experiences about life in London. These videos gave me a clear idea about the culture, facilities, and
opportunities available in the city. I also read articles and blogs about British habits like politeness and

queuing, which I found very interesting. This is how I gathered all the information and prepared myself to
live and study in London.

My university is located at 197 Marsh Wall, London E14 9SG, United Kingdom. I plan to stay within a 0.5 to
1 mile distance from the campus, which will allow me to reach the university in 10 to 15 minutes by
walkable distance. Staying nearby will make it convenient for me to use the university library for my
assignments and gain knowledge during my free time. I am looking at areas such as Poplar, Plaistow, and
Greenwich, as these are close to the campus. The room rent is around150 pounds per week, which comes
to about 600 pounds per month, and it includes utilities like electricity, water, gas, and Wi-Fi. I know about
various online platforms for finding accommodation, such as Amber Student, iQ Student Accommodation,
SpareRoom, and Rightmove, and I plan to search for a room through these sites. However, I will only book
my room after receiving the CAS letter, as the CAS and visa process sometimes takes more time, and
booking early can lead to complications.

I have applied for the course MBA Cybersecurity at University of Sunderland in London. Well, I am interest
in cybersecurity because it is rapidly growing felid with lot of opportunities. I did my bachelor degree in
data science which gave a good foundation in this area. In data science, I learned how to analyze large
datasets using machine learning and find patterns skills that are essential in cybersecurity and data
science. Both fields rely on data to solve complex problem whether its understanding business trends or
detecting cyber threats. I also did a 3-month internship in cybersecurity at deepsphere AI. Durning my
intern time I have learn a lot about real life cyber security project development my role involves collecting
and analyze data to support company decision. One of the biggest achievements of intern time. I was
developing a credit card fraud detection system using python. I was involved in their entire process from
collecting and cleaning data to applying data science technique for identifying fraudulent transaction. This
project really helps me improve my skills in cyber security. Now I want to take my knowledge to the next
level that’s why I applied for the course MBA cyber security. This course helps me develop my skills. In my
future plan aiming to chief information security officer. I believe this course will preparing for the career in
cybersecurity. And my background in data science gives me a strong foundation for this course and my
future career in cyber security.

There are five Modules in this course. Strategic Leadership for a Sustainable Future, International Business
in Context, Digital Enterprise and Innovation, Fundamentals of Cyber Security, MBA Research Project. The
total credit score of my course has 180, with four core modules each 30 credits and the research project
module contributing 60 credits.

Strategic Leadership for a Sustainable Future:

This module will help me learn how to take the right decisions for the long-term success of a business. I
will understand how to balance business growth and sustainability while ensuring that my actions benefit
both the company and the environment. It will also teach me how to lead teams effectively with a focus on
ethical and sustainable practices.

International Business in Context:

Through this module, I will understand how businesses work across different countries and cultures. It will
help me learn about the economic, political, and cultural factors that impact international business. This
knowledge will be useful to handle challenges while working with people from different backgrounds and
understanding global business strategies.

Digital Enterprise and Innovation:

This module will give me a clear idea of how new technologies are transforming businesses. I will learn
about tools like artificial intelligence, blockchain, and cloud computing and how they can be used for

improving business processes. It will also teach me to think creatively and come up with innovative ideas
to solve problems in the digital world.

Fundamentals of Cyber Security:

This module will provide me with basic knowledge about cybersecurity. I will learn how to identify risks,
protect data, and handle cyber threats effectively. It will help me understand the importance of securing
information and creating safe digital environments for businesses.

MBA Research Project:

The research project is a practical way for me to apply everything I learn from the other modules. I will
take up a real-world problem, analyze it in detail, and find a solution using my knowledge. This project will
also help me improve my research and problem-solving skills, which are important for any professional
role.

Overall, this MBA course covers everything I need to become a Chief information security officer (CISO). It
gives me leadership, business strategy, innovation and cybersecurity knowledge all of which are necessary
to lead cybersecurity efforts and manage risks in today’s digital world. This course is a perfect fit for my
career ambitions.

India is a fast-growing country many foreign organizations have recently shown interest to invest their
money in India as a result of this it’s going to create an end number of job opportunity for Indian in further
upcoming year. Because of this reason after I completing my studies in UK return to home in India. UK
degree is highly valuable in India easily to take a job. As I believe that after did my master degree to
secure a cybersecurity analyst at reputable company like IBM, Infosys, TATA, Accenture. I intend to apply
my skills to solve a real-world problem and drive business outcomes. I aiming salary package of INR 10
lakhs per annum I will continues learning through advantage courses and certification specializing area like
Network and cloud. For my long-term goal advanced to chief information security officer (CISO) role is
responsible for protecting the organization’s digital assets from cyber threats. They develop and
implement security strategies, manage risks, and ensure compliance with security regulations. The CISO
leads the cybersecurity team, monitors systems for potential threats, responds to security incidents, and
trains employees on best practices to prevent breaches. Their role is critical in maintaining the
organization’s data security and business continuity. I aspire to lead project and mentor other at top tires
Indian firms like reliance industries, Adani grp, Mahindra group. The target salary package of INR to 15 to
20 lakh per annum. Ultimately, my focus will be on using my expertise to protect organizations from cyber
threats and contribute to the development of safe, secure, and innovative digital solutions.

To conclude, I am confident that pursuing the MBA Cyber Security program at the University of Sunderland
will help me gain the skills and knowledge required to achieve my goal of becoming a Chief Information
Security Officer. The course structure, practical exposure, and the university’s reputation make it an ideal
