Definition of Inference (Conclusion)

Techniques

1. Look for a keyword.


○ The keyword may come both from the question and the text, whichever works.

2. Find the keyword in the text.


○ Scan the text to catch where the keyword is located.
○ Find the context or idea of the sentence where the keyword is located.

3. Draw an inference from the sentence.


○ The inference may come in the form of implied information, prediction, probable
stance of an author, and much more information that is never explicitly stated.
