economy. We call this Economic
Development.
This is actually a total process which includes
not only economic growth or increase in the
given amount of goods and services produced
by the country’s economy but also considers
the social, political, cultural, and spiritual
10 aspects of the economy’s growth.

has developed in the Philippines throughout the years.
Brainstorm ideas within the group. Compare the happenings or
developments of each criteria from then and now. Compile your

development.
⬗ Means of Livelihood – has changed from the hunting
and fishing phase, to the pastoral phase, handicraft
phase, agricultural phase, down to the industrial phase.
⬗ Extent of Economic Activity – has developed from the
household economy, to the village economy, national
economy, down to the international company.
⬗ Medium of Exchange – has evolved from the barter
economy, to the money economy, and down to the

money and credit economy.

The developments in these areas actually imply that there
is a development in the economy. Economic development
actually transitions from one phase to another. These
phases include economic growth, improvement of Human
Development Index (HDI), availability of benefits provided
by science and technology, societal improvement of
opportunities, the general welfare of the members.
