(Reading and Writing)

1. Read the passage below and answer the questions that follow: (1x4–4)

The Arctic is a vast, frozen wilderness that stretches across the northernmost part of the Earth. For centuries,it
has remained one of the most remote and least explored regions of the planet. Despite its harsh, frigid
environment, the Arctic is home to a unique array of wildlife, including polar bears, arctic foxes, seals, and
many types ofseabirds. These animals have adapted in remarkable ways to survive the extreme cold and long,
dark winters.

However,in recent decades, the Arctic has been changing rapidly due to climate change. Rising global
temperatures are causing ice to melt at unprecedented rates, reducing the habitat for many arctic animals. For
example, polar bears depend on sea ice to hunt for seals, their primary food source.Without enough ice, polar
bears are forced to swim long distances to find food, which exhausts them and threatens their survival.

The changing climate in the Arctic also affects indigenous communities who have lived there for generations.
These communities rely on the natural environment for food, clothing, and shelter. With melting ice and
shifting weather patterns, hunting and fishing have become increasinglychallenging.Despite these difficulties,
indigenous people are working hard to preserve their way of life and adapt to the new conditions. They are
combining traditional knowledge with moderntechnology to find innovative solutions, such as using GPS to

track animal migration patterns and installing solar panels to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels.

The rapid transformation of the Arctic serves as a warning for the rest of the world. It highlights the urgent

need to address climate change and protect vulnerable ecosystems. If steps are not taken to reduce global
warming, other regions could soon face similar threats to their environment and way of life.
