Unit Test 1
Grandma Hi, Laura. Happy Birthday!
Laura Hi, Grandma. Thanks! I’ve got a photo of my birthday party; do you see it on your
screen? I know it’s a bit small …
Grandma Yes. Are you at the ice rink in this photo?
Laura Yes, me and my best friend Zara are really into ice skating. Zara is the tall girl with
curly, black hair and brown eyes. She loves dancing, so she’s very good at skating!
Grandma And there are four other people in the photo?
Laura Yes, the two girls are Amelia and Sumi. They’re my teammates from the handball
team at school. Amelia has got short, blonde hair, but today it’s green. She is new to
ice skating so she’s not very good yet. Sumi isn’t really into ice skating, but she loves
pizza and there’s a good pizza restaurant here at the ice rink. Sumi is the short girl
with black hair and glasses.
Grandma Is your brother there at the ice rink with you?
Laura Yes, Mike’s here too. He’s in the photo with his friend Tomas. Tomas and Amelia are
twins, so he’s got the same blonde hair as her. He’s really funny and he’s good at
skating.
Grandma Has Mike got a beard?
Laura Yes, it’s new. Mum doesn’t like it very much.
Grandma I think it’s OK.
Laura We’re at the pizza place now Gran, it’s time for dinner.
Grandma OK Laura, goodbye!

Unit Test 3
Jen Hey, Andy. Do you know anything about a sport called Bossaball?
Andy Hi, Jen. I know it’s quite a new sport, but I don’t know how to play.
Jen You’re right, it is quite new. It’s a sport for eight players in two teams of four.
Andy What kind of sport is it?
Jen Well, the players use moves from volleyball, football and gymnastics, so it’s a bit
different.
Andy Where do people play it?
Jen People play outside, on a court like volleyball, but the court is filled with air and has two
trampolines, one on each side of the net. The players can use the trampolines to jump
very high and to make some great hits and throws.
Andy Sounds interesting. What are the rules?
Jen Well, the four players for each team stand on their side of the field. Because the field is
filled with air, the players are jumping and moving all of the time. The aim of the game
is to score points by making the ball touch the ground in the other teams’ half of the
field.
Andy OK, so how do players use the ball?
Jen There are two types of moves that players use. A volleyball touch is when players use
their hands or arms to hit the ball one time to other players in their team. A soccer
touch is when they use any other part of their body or their feet one or two times to hit
the ball, which is like football.
Andy But how do they score points?
Jen Players can use the two types of moves, or ‘touches’ to give the ball to other players on
their team, then one person on the team makes a big hit to push the ball over the net to
hit the other team’s field. The number of points they get is decided by where the ball
hits and what type of touch they used.
Andy I think I understand – what about an example?
Jen Sure. OK, so if they use a ‘volleyball touch’ and the ball hits the trampoline, the team
wins three points, but if it hits the playing area, they get one point. If they use a ‘soccer
touch’ and it hits the trampoline, the team gets five points, or three points if it hits the
playing area.
Andy That’s a bit difficult to remember. Do you think there are videos online? I want to see
what it looks like.
Jen Yes, there are lots of videos. Let’s look for one now.

Unit Test 5
Hello, I’m going to tell you about a fantastic new restaurant that opened recently in the town. The
restaurant’s called The Spice Kitchen, and you can find it on the High Street. It was called Ajay’s
Kitchen, but changed its name and also moved from Main Avenue.
When you enter, Ajay, the owner, and his sister Aisha welcome you. They look after their
customers like they are family. Aisha’s son takes you to your table and then Ajay takes your order.
The tables are large and there is room for everyone to sit comfortably. The chairs are also
comfortable.
After ordering, you get a small starter while you are waiting for your meal to arrive. The dishes
are incredible, they are not too spicy and there is a range of dishes for everyone, from healthy
vegetarian dishes to fish dishes, and also meat.
We ordered a variety of dishes, because my friends like trying different food. Aisha’s son
helps you choose your food by describing the dishes. You get a lot of food on your plate, so there
is no need to order too much and it’s not too expensive. The service is really fast. For example, our
food arrived in less than 15 minutes, which was great as the restaurant was quite busy.
The only negative thing is the price of the drinks. We ordered lemonade and a mango
smoothie, and they were quite expensive, but they are home-made by Aisha.
The Spice Kitchen is great. They only have curry on the menu, but I think everyone who likes
curry must go and try it. This restaurant can sometimes be very busy and noisy. However, it is an
awesome place to go and spend time with friends and family.

Unit Test 6
Hello, everyone. My presentation is about the geography and weather in Chile. Chile is a long, thin
country, and its location between the Pacific Ocean and the Andes mountain range means that it
has many different climate regions and lots of different types of weather.
When we look at this map of Chile, we see in the far north of the country, the area around the
city of Antofagasta is the hottest part of the country. Many tourists come to this region to visit the
Atacama Desert, which is the oldest desert on Earth. It is a very dry region and it only rains
between 1 and 4 times every 100 years!
In the central valley region, in this part of the map here, is the capital city of Santiago. The
summers in Santiago are long, sunny and dry, so the winters are short and rainy. The climate here
makes it perfect for making wine – my mum says her favourite red wine comes from this part of
Chile. The city of Valparaiso is also in this region, but it is colder than Santiago because it is on the
coast.
The southern region has more rain than any other area in the country – the city of Valdivia on
the coast has more than 200cm of rain every year. The coldest part of the country is Patagonia,
which is in this area of the map, close to Argentina. The weather there is cold and icy. There are
many types of animals that make their homes in the mountains and ocean in this region, including
pumas, whales and penguins, but the region is also very popular with tourists who come to see the
amazing volcanoes, lakes and glaciers.
Thank you for listening. Are there any questions?

Grey’s monument is a statue of Earl Grey 2nd. It is there so people remember Earl Grey, who was
the British Prime Minister from 1830 until 1834. It was built in 1838. In 1941, the head was knocked
off in stormy weather and in 1947, a new head was made for it. There are 164 steps to the top.

3
I like London, but I don’t think it’s a nice place to live. People are always busy and never have time
for you. The city centre is very crowded, and the streets are full of tourists. The trains and buses
are dirty and always full. What I do like is the buildings. Some of them are quite beautiful and very
big.

4
Dad, we had a fantastic time in the museum. We had to wait outside for 15 minutes before we went
in, but it was great. One room was so big we were there for half an hour. The tour lasted for two
hours. The only bad thing was the journey home, it was an hour and we all fell asleep on the train
after ten minutes.
