Justin Johnson Lab Partner: Shaquille Fuller Experiment 1 Date:08-29-11 Op Amp Based Inverting and Non-Inverting Amplifiers

This document summarizes an experiment on designing inverting and non-inverting op-amp amplifiers. The objective was to design each amplifier to amplify a 1V, 1kHz sinusoidal signal to between 4.5-5.2V. The equipment used included function generators, power supplies, oscilloscopes, and multimeters. Calculations were shown for determining the gain and component values for each circuit. The experimental results found the inverting amplifier had a gain of 4.67 and output of 9.63V peak-to-peak, while the non-inverting had a gain of 5.1 and output of 10.8V peak-to-peak. Both achieved the desired gain objectives.

Experimental Procedure:
1.Design an inverting amplifier that will amplify a sinusoidal signal of 1V peak (or 2V peak to peak) and 1KHz frequency to a sinusoid of the same frequency and a voltage between4.5 and 5.2V peak. 2.Design a non-inverting amplifier that will amplify a sinusoidal signal of 1V peak and 1 KHz frequency to a sinusoid of the same frequency and a voltage between 4.5 and 5.2V peak.

Results:
Using the given material such as the resistor values, and voltage source we were able to calculate and design an Inverting and noninverting amplifier with the following values.

Inverting Amplifier:
R3=4.7k Rf=21.77k R1=3.79l A=4.67 Peak To Peak=9.63V

Non- Inverting Amplifier

R3=2.792k Rf=16k R1=2.93k

A2=5.1 Peak To Peak=10.8V

Conclusions:
The objective of this experiment was to give the student hands on experience with designing an Inverting and Non-inverting amplifier. During this experiment the range of the gain was given, this allowed the student to choose and calculate the value of the resistors. Calculated correctly the given gain range would be displayed on the oscilloscope in the form of the peak-to-peak voltage. The results obtained from the oscilloscope coincide with the calculated values and can be viewed in the results section.
