Topology
(Note: The MAC addresses seen within the topology above will not match the MAC addresses
of your topology. Therefore, we will begin with a practice exercise, analyzing the STP
topology shown.)
Spanning Tree Protocol Exercise
Using topology information, answer the following questions:
● Which switch is the root bridge?
o This is the switch with the lowest Bridge ID.
Þ This is made up of the Bridge Priority and the Bridge MAC Address.
o If the priorities are all the same, then the Root Bridge is decided by the lowest
MAC Address.
● Which ports are the root ports?
o The one (and only one) port on a non-Root Bridge that’s closest to the Root
Bridge, in terms of cost.

● Which ports are the designated ports?
o The one (and only one) port on each segment that is closest to the Root Bridge in
terms of cost.
● Which ports are the blocking ports?
o A port that is administratively enabled, but is not a Root Port nor a Designated
Port.
