Geometric Theorems Grade 10 & 11

1. If a straight Line meets another straight line, the sum of the two
adjacent angles of formed is equal to 1800. (Supplementary pair)

2. If two straight lines intersect, the vertically opposite angles formed

are equal.

3. If a transversal intersects two parallel straight lines

a. The corresponding angles equal or

b. The alternate angles equal or

c. The sum of two allied angles formed is equal to 1800.

Congruency cases
4. if two sides and the included angle of a triangle are equal to two sides and
the included angel of another triangle, the two triangles are congruent
(S.A.S)

5. if any two angles and a side of a triangle are equal to two angles and the
corresponding side of another triangle, the two triangles are congruent
(A.A.S)

6. if three sides of a triangle are equal to three sides of another triangle, the
two triangles are congruent (S.S.S)

7. If a side and the hypotenuse of a right angled triangle are equal to a side
and the hypotenuse of another right angled triangle, then the two triangles
are congruent (Hypotenuse –Side)

Triangle Theorems
8. The exterior angle formed by producing a side of a triangle is equal to
the sum of the three interior opposite angles.

9. The sum the three interior angles of a triangle is 1800.

10. The sum of the interior angles of a polygon with n sides is (n-2) x 1800.
The sum of exterior angles of any polygon is 3600.
11. If two sides of a triangle are equal, the angles opposite these are equal.

12. If two angles of a triangle are equal, then the sides opposite also equal.

Parallelogram
14. Properties of the Parallelogram:

In a parallelogram: The opposite sides are equal; The opposite angles are
equal; Diagonals bisect each other; Diagonals bisect the area of the
parallelogram

15. If one of the below condition satisfy then that quadrilateral is become a
parallelogram.

If the opposite side of a quadrilateral are equal,

If the opposite angles of a quadrilateral are equal,

If the diagonals of a quadrilateral bisect each other,

If a pair of opposite side is equal and parallel,

(Midpoint Theorem)

16. The line joining the midpoints of two sides of a triangle is parallel to the

third side and its half the size of third side.

(Converse of midpoint theorem)

17. In a triangle a line drawn through the midpoint of one side, parallel to
another side, bisect the third side.
Theorems Related Area
18. The parallelograms on the same base and between the same pair of
parallel lines are equal in area.

19. If a triangle and parallelogram are on the same base and between the same
pair of parallel lines, then the area of the triangle is equal to half the area of
the parallelogram.

20. Triangles on the same base and between the same pair of parallel lines are
equal in area.

Pythagoras Theorem
21. In a right angled triangle, the area of the square drawn on the hypotenuse
is equal to the sum of the area of the squares drawn on the other two sides
which contain the right angle.

22. A Straight line drawn parallel to a side of a triangle, divides the other two
sides proportionally.

23. If a straight line divides two sides of a triangle proportionally, then it is

parallel to the third side.

24. The corresponding sides of two equiangular triangles are proportional.

25. If the corresponding sides of two triangles are proportional, then triangles
are equiangular.
Circle Theorems (Chords)
26. The straight line joining the centre of a circle to the midpoints of a chord
which is not a diameter is perpendicular to the chord.

27. The perpendicular drawn from the centre of a circle to a chord which is not
diameter bisects that chord.

Circle Theorems Angles

28. The angle subtended by an arc of a circle at the centre is equal to twice
the angle subtended by same arc on the remaining part of the circle.

29. Angles in the same segment of a circle are equal.

30. The angle in a semicircle is a right angle.

31. The opposite angles of a cyclic quadrilateral are supplementary.

32. In a cyclic quadrilateral, the exterior angle formed by producing a side is

equal to the interior opposite angle.

33. If pair of opposite angles of a quadrilateral is supplementary, then the

quadrilateral is a cyclic quadrilateral.

34. The tangent drawn to a circle at any points is perpendicular to the radius
drawn at the contact point.

35. When two tangents are drawn to a circle from an external point, then

a. Two tangents are equal in length

b. The angles subtended by the tangents at the centre of the circle are
equal

c. The line joining the centre to the external point bisects the angle
between the tangents.

36. When a straight line touches a circle and a chord is drawn from the point of
contact the angles made by the chord and the tangent are equal to the angles
in the alternate segments.
