This document provides responses to questions about GMOs and profiles several
GMOs found locally. For the first question, the author believes GMO research
should continue since potential health risks are not fully known and GMOs can
benefit farmers. For the second question, the author argues genetic engineering is
scientific, not playing God, as it modifies existing organisms through research
rather than creating from scratch. The document then profiles five local GMOs -
potato, banana, corn, lettuce, and papaya - describing their modified
characteristics such as pest resistance, increased nutrients, and drought tolerance.
Photos are included for each organism.

Aji Love C. SuropiaBSBA FM 3-6A. Short AnswerAnswer the following questions

concisely. (5 points each)
1.Do you think the pursuit of GMO research should stop? Why or why not?In my
own opinion, the pursuit of GMO research should not stop because there are side
effects of itthat is not yet 100% confirmed, therefore there are some problems that
can still occur anytime andif happens, it could affect human’s health negatively
like allergy. At the same time, scientistsrevealed evidence of the possibility of
accidental and unexpected changed in GMO. Thus, theyshould pursue to continue
to search more about GMO effects and other factors because I believewith GMO,
there are still positive effects that can help us in our daily lives especially
thoselaborers that use food crops and other products that has been tested with
GMO which made their work easier and product better. 2. Is genetic engineering a
purely scientific process, or is it indeed an act as humans playing God? Explain
your answer. In my own opinion, genetic engineering is a purely scientific process
and not an act as humans playing God because genetic engineering is merely
modifying what was already there, scientistsuse genetic engineering to innovate
and improve the product. In contrast, God created everythingfrom scratch. Aside
from that, the process of generic engineering is based on scientific research by
scientists which took numerous trials, tests and research unlike how God created
things in theworld. Therefore, genetic engineering’s purpose is to just improve and
innovate what God hascreated, not merely creating a new product or thing.

B.GMO Profiling
Profile at least five (5) GMOs in your locality. Identify all the modified
characteristics and provide an original photo (a photograph taken by you) for each
organism. You may utilize thetemplate below. (10 points each)Common Name:
Potato
Scientific Name:
Solanum Tuberosum
Modified Characteristics:
It includes introducing

pest resistance

, tweaking

the amounts of certain chemicals produced by the plant,

and hides the symptoms of blackspot bruising rather

than preventing it.

Common Name:
Banana
Scientific Name:

Musa
Modified Characteristics:
It resists a bacterial wilting disease and pest

species

that are devastating the critical food crop in

tropical regions across the planet.

Their thick skin prevents chemicals from being absorbed in the banana

flesh, keeping all bananas off the

dirty dozen list

. These bananas have higher levels of Vitamin A.

Common Name:
Banana
Scientific Name:
Zea Mays
Modified Characteristics:
It is created to resist insect pests or tolerate herbicides. It that produces proteins
that are toxic tocertain insect pests but not to humans, pets, livestock,or other
animals. Corn that has been modified can lastlonger without the need for
preservatives, which arechemicals added to the food to increase their shelf
life.Corn that is grown for ethanol production couldproduce a higher overall yield.
For the corn we eat, itcould be grown to taste better. It can be infused
withadditional nutritional benefits.
Common Name:
Lettuce
Scientific Name:

Lactuca Sativa
Modified Characteristics:
GMO is the wonderful, tactical, and great tasting

lettuce that incorporates the dressing of many types into

the lettuce itself. The lettuce has both the taste of thelettuce and the taste of the
dressing. It also can help in
healing bone fracture.
Common Name:
Papaya
Scientific Name:

Carica papaya
Modified Characteristics:
It may be able to resist disease such as ringspot virus. Disease- and drought-
resistant plants that require fewer environmental resources (such as water and
ad

fertilizer) . Increased supply of food with reduced cost , longer shelf life and
tastier. Faster growing plants and animals.
