INTRODUCTION
In this modern world, everybody owns an advanced cell phone beginning from
youngsters to advanced age individuals. Since the onset of COVID-19, the
prerequisite for smartphones has expanded in India as well as other parts of the
world. There was a requirement for cell phones by adolescents for online classes.
Photoplay can be watched through various sources. Children have access to a
wide variety of content available on online media these days. They are unable to
differentiate harmful content from harmless one, and hence vulnerable to the pros
and cons of media. Many times, when parents/ guardians take their children out
for a movie, they fail to consider the impacts it would have on the psychology of
the kid. It has often been seen, that preteens get wrongly influenced by media
content. They tend to believe that impersonating a certain character and its habit
would make them look cool among their peers, when in fact it may be having
negative repercussions. Bringing along another important aspect, i.e., the sound
in cinema halls; the loud sound may sometimes interfere with the auditory ability
of children. In worst-case scenarios, exposure to continuous loud noise may leave
them deaf for the rest of their lives. When new-born babies are taken into the hall,
they cannot really express their discomfort from the lighting or the loud noise.
Thus, in case the baby gets affected by a problem, it becomes highly likely that it
goes undetected for a considerable amount of time. The amount of violence,
abuse, sexual content etc. shown on the media these days, have their own
repercussions and this project is being undertaken exactly in light of these
repercussions.

WHAT IS PHOTOPLAY
representation by means of motion picture or
film.
Let’s start off by understanding photoplay. Photoplay is a movie. It's a true-to-
life portrayal of a play, show, and so forth. Essentially, it's a film, video anything
that we see on the cell phone, TV, or some other hardware. They are watched by
a wide number of audiences. We watch them several times a day, via the media
circulating on online platforms. It is crafted through visual workmanship used to
animate encounters that impart thoughts, stories, discernment, sentiments,
excellence, or atmosphere using moving pictures. These pictures are by and large
accompanied by sound and all the more seldom tactile excitement. The moving
pictures of a photoplay are made by shooting genuine scenes with a film camera,
by capturing drawings or scaled-down models utilizing customary liveliness
procedures, through CGI and PC movement, or by a blend of some of these
strategies, and other enhanced visualizations. A graphic recording of the spoken
words, music, and other sounds that accompany the images, runs along a portion
of the photoplay exclusively reserved for it.

IMPACT OF PHOTOPLAY ON ADOLESCENTS
Everything in existence has two aspects, just like a coin with two sides. In this
section, we’ll look at the two aspects of the photoplay, its positives and the
negatives.
POSITIVES:
Photoplays with social or messages can be worth the watch. The adolescents
attempt to impersonate whatever is displayed on the screen and this reflects in
their dressing style, their approach to talking, etc. Photoplays empower thoughts
and help us in realizing what is going on on the planet. It has been scientifically
demonstrated that watching a photoplay is beneficial to us, in many ways.
Watching horror shows can consume calories and improve brain activity. Some
of them have social messages, they portray social issues as well as make
individuals mindful of difficult encounters. There are numerous photoplays from
which adolescents can learn something which can be helpful to them later. By
gaining insight from that, they can learn to be a better individual in the future.
They can supply educational resources, assist with individual development and
express appropriate emotions. There are numerous photoplays utilized for
instructive and educational purposes. They teach them positive social
interactions.
NEGATIVES:
Negative things nnnnnnn everybody effectively towards itself; juveniles being
not so developed get drawn in towards negative things without any problem. In
this period, youngsters are more dynamic on a cellphones. They consistently
watch photoplays on cell phones. The majority of the photoplays have subtle
7|Page
cues, bigoted qualities, chauvinist considerations and thoughts, and terrible
ethics. Juveniles watch their favorite shows in which the protagonist has
otherworldly abilities and do some kind of things that are impractical, in reality.
These shows can lead youngsters into believing that they too can do everything
and can prompt awful outcomes. There are varied sources of photoplay that
youngsters watch. Nowadays, due to cell phones and televisions, juveniles sit at
home all day gazing at the screen, instead of going out and doing some physical
activity. Photoplay likewise establishes connections to stoutness, tobacco use,
and issues with animosity and attention in adolescents. Studies have revealed that
adolescents learn from what they see, observe and what their parents do. Their
vocabulary can be affected by the photoplays.

EFFECT OF DIFFERENT PHOTOPLAY ON
ADOLESCENTS
• FILMS:
Watching films and movies is a fun task that is dominant in the life of all children.
Not only is it a form of entertainment but also helps in shaping the creative and
innovative power of adolescents. Also, this is the age where the emotional
intelligence of a child develops the most, movies play a huge role in shaping them.
Watching movies in theatres, even though is a stimulating experience on its own,
could become something more serious for preteens. Some children cannot tolerate
the dark environment that the theatre offers. Viewing films with violence,
substance abuse, sex, offensive language, and other adult themes severely impact
adolescent children. Even though there have been restrictions imposed by the
government on airing such media, these are not properly implemented in theatres,
etc making age-inappropriate content available to adolescents. This makes them
try those things which they see in movies without being properly aware of their
repercussions.
• YOUTUBE:
YouTube is a platform which plays host to online video sharing of all genres, be
it education, comedy, entertainment, and others. This acts as entertainment when
one want to refresh himself/herself. The videos are really informative. But, there
are also videos that are meant to be not watched by children but there is no way
to stop or impose restrictions on adolescents from watching it. There are many
videos in which making harmful remarks on others is shown as comedy and is
9|Page
normalised for having fun, which the adolescents incorporate in their life which
they think makes them cool but is actually very wrongful on many levels.
• WEB SERIES:
OTT platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, Hotstar, etc. are becoming a major
source of supplying media and have slowly become a huge part of one’s everyday
life. After the COVID pandemic hit, these platforms have become even more
popular as people get the refreshment, they need from the comforts of their home
through web series over going to the theatre. But negative aspect of these web
series is that these are not regulated unlike movies where the censor board cuts
in, in case of inappropriate content.
• SERIALS:
These are the contents/ media aired on television on a routine basis, meant to
provide entertainment to the family as a whole hence has content ranging from
wildlife, sports, culture, news to daily soaps. But many a time, the content shown
in these daily soaps and family drama forsake authenticity and realism in name
of drama and go beyond age-appropriate norms.
• ADULT FILMS:
As per a survey, a little more than half the adolescents in India have had exposure
to sexual content that is not appropriate for their age. This kind of unsupervised
exposure shapes the future of sexual practices and can even lead to indulgence in
unsafe sexual health practices. Watching these can also lead to desensitisation to
sexual violence.

CONCLUSION
The conclusion reached by the survey conducted is that parents should exercise
control on the content that their kids are exposed to up to a certain extent. This
will help to maintain a fine balance in respecting what their adolescents are
watching and also not letting them get exposed to content that is not appropriate
for them. Also, adolescents must not be allowed regular exposure to photoplays
and must be always told to draw fine line between what is real and what is not
and is just there for entertainment purposes. The adolescents must also be
sensitised about the negatives of these photoplays and can waste their time, if
they give in to their allure. The adolescents must be told how to use these
photoplays in the best way for their own benefit. It falls upon the parents to ensure
that the media their kids are consuming is appropriate and won’t have a
detrimental effect. Also, the parent must encourage their kids to replace their
screen time with some other productive exercise such as playing outdoors, etc.
