Initial Report (20%)
● Single document from a supervision group but including individual literature reviews
✓ an introduction and project background (group component);
✓ research problem, aim(s) and a list of the key objectives of the project (group component).
✓ a technical literature review from each team member detailing the most relevant and up-to-
date information about each sub-topic, word count 3000 per student (individual
component);
✓ a GANTT chart and a detailed overall work breakdown structure, should be included in the
appendix (group component).
▪ Clearly indicate what is group (30%) and what is individual (70%)
Let’s take a look at an example Project
▪ A feasibility study of new emerging technologies for Traffic Management in the city of York

Ethics Protocol
▪ You will need ethics approval for collecting primary data, something which you will need to discuss with
your project supervisor. In most cases, Fast track Ethics form will be applicable.
▪ Last date for submitting your ethics application form to your project supervisor -
7th of July.
▪ Please note: Once your ethics application has been formally approved by your first supervisor, you
should notify the general office (imogen.scott@york.ac.uk or ilker.girit@york.ac.uk) via email for record
keeping purposes.
▪ All data collection should be completed at least 3 weeks (last date: 28th of July 2023) before the final
project deadline (17th of August 2023) to enable a satisfactory analysis and reporting of findings. Any
data collected during the last three weeks before the submission deadline will not be considered for final
project evaluation and hence, won’t be marked.
▪ What if you need a Full ethics approval instead of Fast Track Ethics application?
